🏀 That horse is dead

Got a point there, Doe. Munchy, I don't think there's a thing anyone can do. He's staying. Surely... SURELY... with all of the experience gained next year's team cannot possibly be worse than this one. Basketball just makes this time of year even worse than it already is.

Well, the barn just canned Barbee. Of course, Barbee did do a whole lot worse than Grant over the last four seasons. But still, I feel like we need to follow suit. We won't, but we need to. The barn at least recognized that their situation was not going to get any better. I wish the powers that be at UA could do the same. Sigh.....

Setting aside the point any comparison consisting of "Auburn did this, we should..."

Grant and Barbee don't even belong in the same thread, much less same post.

I'll say this...if Grant had been starting three seniors, a RS Jr. and a freshman and had the record Barbee did he would be fired.

I'm pretty confident if he had that group (yrs of experience) working with him he'd have a lot more success than he had this season.

Remember when the barn hired Barbee out of UTEP? He had been a Calipari assistant and was just the shot in the arm that the barn basketball program needed! Somehow, he managed to get them into even worse shape than he found them in.

A month or so ago I took a look at some of the bigger named coaches in the NCAA and their coaching trees. I was shocked at the lack of success their assistants have had.

I'm almost at the point of thinking getting the right fit for a basketball coach is a harder hire than getting a fit for a football coach—especially here at Bama.

You didn't miss a thing. Same Coach same results. I guess that was why Bama was not on anything but ESPN3 or computer.
I even bet that CM was at the game dodging reporters for Grant.
Only one way to say it since this year is over, don't let it happen again. BB just get a Coach for team and then we can put this year behind us.

That's an issue with your local provider. I live out of state and watched a portion of every game of the tourney.

Yeah, it's really something how former assistant coaches in basketball just don't pan out like they do in football. The Virginia Commonwealth team that went to the Final Four in 2011 were almost all Grant's recruits. Looking back, I wonder if Grant was still at VCU in 2011, would they have still made the Final Four?

Alabama is a football school. There really isn't much point watching hoops if you are a Tide fan. I think the winter is a good time to get everything done around the house, make your wife happy you aren't watching sports all the time, and get ready for spring.

I watched every game this season, except for the Wichita State game and we were traveling so I listened to it on Sirius. I won't do that again. I'm giving up. Let me know when we have a different coach, and I'll watch and have hope for a while until I realize once more Bama isn't a basketball school.

Alabama is not a Kentucky, year in and year out but at least with Wimp he put together a team and COACHED them during the game with his assistants. Just look at the number of years Wimp put together over 20 wins in each of his first 10 years there. Alabama needs a coach that at least give a run at the SEC tourney in which Wimp won 6 SEC titles in his first 10 years. I know Wimp is gone and times have changed but look at all other sports at the school and have strong they have been in the last few years and the so called number 2 program at Alabama (basketball) is getting worst. I am sorry but there is only one person
responsible for Alabama not being a contender in basketball and that is WHITE shirt Grant. I guess CM saved his boy for another year but what are you gonna do next year, ( I bet the basic same
thing again with Grant there). Wish I could see and say different but those are the facts from what I have seen since he has been there.

Pitino produced Donovan. It is second generation where the questions come. Knight produced coach K. It is again the next génération that struggles.

The first recommendation that C.M. made was that we hire Wimp. That worked pretty well, but many thought we should have hired someone with head coach experience.

Gottfired was widely supported when he was hired and ended in disgrace.

While we all expected much more from this team, now the question is best for U of A. Coach Battle has judged that keeping Coach Grant for another year is best. He certainly knows better than I do.

Don't put your eggs all in one basket. Battle saw one big name available, and that was Pearl. Recruiting class coming in, 2 new transfers. Grant either changes and he succeeds, or he gets fired, and the next HC isn't left with a depleted roster.

We will have five players in their last year next season: Randolph, Cooper, Jacobs (if he comes back), Key and Engstrom. This will be a pivotal recruiting year for us.
