🏈 Texas regent talked to Nick Saban's agent after BCS National Championship (report)

Can someone please explain to me why all coaches haven't already voluntarily agreed to remain silent on any media speculation regarding job changes? I mean, there is nothing to gain to discuss a coaching move before you're ready to announce it. So why don't coaches all simply reply "no comment" to each and every question about a coaching move?

Catch 22, you do that and people say "why wont he just say something?" and the media constantly hounds you with the questions. Saban did that in Miami and it kept up which led to the "Im not leaving" comment that he obviously didnt mean.

Not to turn this into a Vick thread hahah but just watching him (for what, 4 years now?), he's just too inconsistent overall. He has really great plays and runs, some really accurate passes, but they are marred by sloppy fumbles, awful INTs (like that one a few minutes ago; looked like a rookie mistake), and poor decisions (not sliding, risky plays, etc). In the preseason, Foles actually played a much faster uptempo offense than Vick, and really led it quite well. But Vick outplayed him overall with the offense he ran. Vick has a pretty good o-line now (it was plagued with injuries last year) so I am hoping he can make more happen this year. But fact is, the dude is 33. He should know better than a lot of the mistakes he makes. I wish him well, and he works harder than arguably anyone in the NFL, but some things just don't change. I hope his good play overcomes his bad play though. I also wish he was about 7 years younger hahah. But the guy still has legs! Unfortunately he's also made of glass. I am hoping he has a good season (as good of a season as you can have with a brand new HC and new everything).

Also, re: Saban's quip to the media .. A-FREAKIN-MEN :chat2_bow3:

EDIT: Yep, old/bad Vick is back tonight :(

Oh trust me I know about Vick, I wanted him all those years in ATL and I'm still a fan now... His biggest problem has always been recognizing blitzes... as far as tonight goes he had a really off night, missed some receivers bad but good lord was the o-line pathetic in pass protection. My word, even on that gorgeous TD pass he threw he got OBLITERATED standing in the pocket.

That + 3 turnovers from Vick alone including a pick six = unhappy PhillyGirl. This is a year of growing pains for sure ..

:icon_scratch: Maybe I wasn't clear. By committing to a policy of silence on any and all media inquiries of interest in other coaching positions, all coaches could avoid being placed in any uncomfortable situations. Obviously, coaches may or may not be expected to disclose privately to their current employers about such matters, but they could at least decide to never confirm or deny anything to the media. If I was Saban, especially after the Dolphins debacle, I would have preemptively announced my decision to never publicly discuss any speculation about any job changes.

Was glad to see Lesean McCoy get back up. Vick certainly didn't play well last night, but do you think that has to do with the O-Line? I mean Vick can be a good QB when he has protection, and Chip Kelley didn't even seem like he was mixing plays up and was predictable. Vick had some bad throws, but it wasn't like he had a lot of time to see his reads.

Omerta for coaching speculation.

I know that since CNS has been here he has been rumored to the Cowboys, To the Browns, to Notre dame, and to Texas. Yawn. Do we have any fresh rumors?

Just apart of having the big name, and TerryP made the point I would of posted. You would think if he wanted the job, then it would of been his no matter if Mack wanted to coach or not.

There are a bunch of LSU fans here in Morgan City, LA who want very badly for the rumor to be true. When CNS came to Alabama, some of them said, "He'll leave within 5 years." To which I replied, "If he leaves Bama in as good a shape, talent-wise, as he left LSU, I'd shake his hand, pat him on the back, and wish him well." He didn't leave and the rest, as they say, is history.

I don't think he's going anywhere.

Pirate, he is just like us He said he is too old to pull up roots and go somewhere else.

Joe, one of my LSU friends said his ego would drive him to Austin 'cause he wanted to win a national championship at 3 different schools. I would imagine that Mrs. Saban would have something to say about his moving. I figure he will retire at Alabama.
