Considering this is college football, the UCLA Bruins probably weren't prepared to throw the Texas Longhorns off guard by choosing to defer after winning the coin toss.

Apparently, no one told the Longhorns captains that deferring means they have the option to receive in the second half, so they elected to kick.

According to Bruin Report Online, the referee even tried explaining the situation to the Texas captain, but he still wanted to kick.

Worst I remember. In old AFL days the Dallas Texans (now KC Chiefs) won the toss in an OT playoff game, and their captain chose to "kick to the clock". This was true sudden death 1st team to score OT. They got a stop and won anyway.

Swoopes has gained alot of weight and isn't as fast as I've seen him in high school. He looked reluctant to run the ball against UCLA at times.

Yes, I thought at the time that was a little much. Carry him off the field that is. But, then again it is a Southern Californian school! You see what I did there I'm glad we don't have any USC fans on here.

Carried off for beating Texas (BYU's done it back to back years), with a 2nd string QB a weakened OL and a very suspect defense. At least the UCLA fans didn't storm the field...
