Boosters have refused to help with the buyout unless it's Urban. And once again, a group of a few boosters wanted Meyer, put the word out through their favorite TX beat writer that it was possible, and here we are again.

Could you imagine getting the call to help buy out contracts every 3-4 years?

I imagine, the more frequently it's done, the more leverage a booster has going forward. This is probably how things get really messy. Future ADs are dealing with the ramifications of these decisions.

Would be interesting to be a fly on the wall to hear how that transpires. If I had to guess, you let the booster have the idea, easier to sell it as an AD.

Whoever it is will haft to put up with millionaires wanting to be in on all decisions and have all the insight they think they deserve. Not sure it would be as easy to tell them to kick rocks like coach Saban did to our boosters . Im sure that weighed in on Urban’s decision , and with his health problems thats just a headache he didnt want to deal with .

I don't think Urban ever wanted the job. I do think he wants to be talked about, but he wanted no part of that Texas job, which is why he demanded what he demanded. I personally think the only job he'd come back for is Notre Dame, because the money would be great, the a path to a playoff would be easy, and it comes without the excessive pressure of the other top jobs. And as a bonus, Catholics are good at covering up stuff.

^^^this^^^ Both ND and UF replaced their HCs in 2005. Urban Meyer would have walked naked from Utah to South Bend for the ND job, but when Bernie Machen left Utah and became the President of UF on 01/05/2004, Urban Meyer became the "Next HC of UF". ND was left with Charlie Weis.

Meyer is 56 and certainly has all the money he’ll ever need. At a certain level, I can understand the drive to be relevant and reach, and/or regain, the pinnacle of your chosen pursuit. He’s been there. He has had health (honestly, I believe a portion of it is mental health) issues suggesting he couldn’t withstand another stint in the crucible. Despite my dislike of his represented teams, I wish him a comfortable retirement in the relaxed environs of broadcasting.

On the other side of things, you have Coach Saban spending one game away from the sideline and lamenting how terrible it would be to leave the game. I teared up a bit when I read that.

I think we have another five years of this.

It's amazing how one man thrives under pressure another crumbles. I was listening to Dr Kevin Elko' Monday Morning Cup of Inspiration today and he gave the analogy of how a carrot, an egg, and coffee beans were all faced with the same boiling water, yet they all responded to it differently. The carrots got soft, the egg hardened, and the coffee changed into something good and useful.

Seemed apropos with our discussion.
