🏈 Texas and their recruiting issues

What’s the story here? I thought Sark was doing well on the recruiting trail. Why the defections?

Total speculation on my part, but they more than likely have reevaluated their guys that commited in the spring and summer before their final HS season(s) and are shuffling their recruiting board and targeting other guys they want instead. Basically, throwing back some fish that aren't keepers after all.

Just to piggy back off what @Brandon Van de Graaff said, schools may delve more into the transfer portal for those more seasoned guys now and not fool with taking the time to try and develop a guy that may very well not be ready mentally or physically coming out of HS and they need 2-3 years before they are ready. It sucks for HS kids, but it will beef up rosters at smaller schools G5,FCS, or JUCO.

They might well might be the third best team in Texas. We'll know over the next few weeks. ItBa could be the NFL rumors. When does the $20.5 million cap come into play? The Texas Tech oil guys put $55 million into this year's team - just this year. Good NYT article on them pushing the envelope until the cap comes into play.

Bama just played one. Saturday, against St. Johns. He left no doubt about recruiting high school kids.

Quite frankly, Europe puts out better high school players.

No. We just see their very best.

The NBA draft argues otherwise. All you have to do is look at the younger players and their fundamental skills. It's something that is stressed/coached far more overseas. It's high school development versus the travel ball genre.

I read an expose / series on the two in the last couple of years. The authors spoke with coaches from each group: NBA, G-League, foreign (both professional, undergrad, and lower,) CBB coaches here. If I recall correctly, Pitino was one of the "center pieces" speaking of these kids in the NCAA.

I was speaking more on the football side of things rather than basketball. I think there is a difference in earlier development between those sports as well.
