A year ago, Texas A&M landed commitments from eight players on National Signing Day. One of those was Lake Butler (Fla.) Union County running back Charles Strong.
The 6-foot-1, 220-pound prospect was once a Florida State commitment to play fullback under Jimbo Fisher before the head coach moved on to Aggieland. A&M then began to recruit him but, until the eve of Signing Day, it looked like he was headed to Ole Miss.
Strong ended up signing with the Aggies and making his way to College Station in the summer. One of four running backs to sign, he entered a crowded backfield in Aggieland.
Though he saw action in one game early vs. Northwestern State, running for 12 yards on four carries, GigEm247 reported during the season that he had entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. However, just him being in the portal did not necessarily mean he was for sure leaving. It just allowed other schools to contact him.
Now, though, it does look like Strong is indeed headed elsewhere. He now appears on the official roster at Troy.
Texas A&M has signed 23 players in the class of 2019 so far and will ink three more in February. With only 13 graduating seniors on scholarship from this past year, that means that there needs to be some attrition to get under the 85-man limit.
