🏈 Tennessee's Butch Jones to D-line: 'What happens when Alabama comes in here and runs the ball?'

Tennessee had its second scrimmage of the spring season Saturday.

In wet conditions, the scrimmage focused on situational work for in-game scenarios.

Coach Butch Jones said the defense needs a line-of-scrimmage mentality to compete in the SEC, according to The Knoxville News Sentinel.

Per the report, Jones screamed to the defensive line during the scrimmage, "What happens when Alabama comes in here and runs the ball?"

Last year, opponents averaged 207.3 yards a game against the Vols, while the Tide averaged 205.6 rushing yards a game in 2013.

In Alabama' 45-10 win last season, the Tide had three rushing touchdowns and 210 yards rushing, averaging 5.5 yards per rush.

After the scrimmage, he talked about the defensive line's performance.

"I thought we improved procedurally in terms of lining up fast," Jones said in a university release. "We are playing more like we want to on both sides of the football, but this is a line of scrimmage league, and you have to be able to stop the run. Overall, I wasn't pleased with our defensive front. We held some players out, and that was a great opportunity for some of our younger players to be able to develop. You learn through repetitions. Today was a great teaching opportunity. We will come back on Monday and correct for improvements through video study."
