🏈 Team Update 3 August, 2015.

It's early yet guys, let's see where the scrimmage takes us Saturday.

But I will tell you this to make sure full disclosure is out, the source said the QB search is the absolute immediate priority and Kiffin is very frustrated with the progress.

Kiffin should blame himself for trying to develop 5 dudes at once... No other program in the country gives 5 QB's first team reps. Guaranteed

I'm sorry, But why would you say that ? I don't think CNS and Kiffin didnt do anything wrong. They would've loved having a starting qb heading into summer and into fall camp, but we don't have one. It's a mess right now and its still early.

I've been told a few times that Morris is absolutely lights out at understanding the offense and reading defense. May not have all the physical talent of a JC or BB but very smart in a Jr GMac kind of way. Critical thinking requires at least some small aptitude to be developed and more and more it seems as though Coker may lack that aptitude.
Makes sense. Hasn't Morris been our signal caller on the sideline the last couple years? Or maybe it was just last year with Blake. I don't remember who was doing it when AJ was here.

Making the transition from a HS QB that came primarily from a run oriented offense is tough. Coker was in a Wing T offense if I recall correctly. These offenses are more of a one read type of pass play. If the DB does this throw here, if he does this throw there. They really don't understand coverages and reads. Before calling Coker a loss or a dumbass, we need to understand that he is simply WAY behind!! I would imagine that these other kids threw more passes in their warm ups and pre game than what Coker may have attempted in a season! I would think his indecisiveness on throws is a direct result of not having that background of a passing offense like a spread or pro style.

I dunno man... If he couldn't pick up last year's offense, than he can't pick up any. Every pass play went like this:

1. Stand at the line and look at Kiffin

2. Let the receivers hussle to their position before the play clock runs out

3. Call hut

4. Throw to Cooper

5. Watch him run

Fitzpatrick is killing it at practice btw. Been with the 1's alot.

Just my opinion but I don't blame Kiffin at all. I think he is doing his best to work through what he has. Sure he could eliminate 2 players from the competition coming out of spring (you pick which 2) but then you wonder if you cut somebody out too early.

I think you blame a few "misses" in recruiting. This may or may not be a popular opinion but the kid who is at Cincy now (Gunner Kiel) would have made a good QB in the Bama system. Let's not forget that Bateman and Cornwell are both 4 star recruits along with BB who is a 5. Funny thing is Coker was a 3 star and Morris was a 3. What criteria would you use to cut 2-3 of the current guys from the competition if they aren't separating themselves on the field?

You left out 'lick lips'. Otherwise, this breakdown is dead on.

Ummm how about the guy who you had punting on A Day, and the other guy you had playing receiver. Cut your losses at that point and starting dialing in on who you you see as the franchise QB

Why? We experiement with players all the time. if Coker didn't pan out and we thought he has a future at HB or FB, we'll put him there. Doesn't mean we'll cut our losses and move in... I'm so glad you're not a coach....

uagrad93 , did Coker play backup to AJ at the same high school? Were they running wing-T with AJ? Interesting if the offense was changed when Jake came on the scene, or maybe either way.

You've got to be kidding.

Those guys were put at other positions because the staff didn't see a legit future at QB. Would you ever have seen GMAC or McCarron running routes in Spring practice? Of course not.

If Morris has a legit shot at starting, that makes the staff look even worse. Instead of our future starting QB throwing passes and getting live experience, he was practicing ball drops and fucking pooch punts.

The development of this upperclassmen group of QB's has been FUBAR'd. Hopefully one of these dudes can step up and make that position look respectable.
