šŸˆ Team Report: Fall Scrimmage #1 : Comments, articles, and discussions covering Bama's scrimmage.

@uagrad93 Last night, I spoke with a friend of mine that works with the "quality control" aspect of the offense. There's a few reasons I'm bring this up; QB battle, how the offensive line is shaping up, etc.

It's old news that one of the attributes of Barnett is his ability to keep his eyes downfield when he's scrambling. It doesn't sit well with me thinking about any of the QB's scrambling but it is what it is. When I mentioned Dom and the right tackle position he sounded like a politician; almost. While his comments were short and succinct, they were filled with words like progressing, maturing, learning, growing, developing ... Bottom line, I took the comments to mean the staff feels Dom is coming along as expected. Most importantly, coming along.

It seems everyone wants to talk about Cotton. We knew he had a lot of potential coming in and if it wasn't for him being a bit banged up we'd probably be hearing some glowing reports about him today. While I'm not saying he fits the mold of Barrett, there is a confidence that he can handle any position on the offensive line. That is important to me due to thoughts (my interpretation here) that Ryan may be our best option as back-up for Cam if he happens to get hurt.

Funny thing about Lester when I step back from the trees and look at the forest, so to speak. With the talent committed on the line, he needs to make his mark this year. If not, he may find himself looking at opportunities to get on the field due to the new guys being that well groomed for collegiate action.

On what I consider to be an interesting note: There's a growing sense that our defensive backs in this last class may be better equipped to handle play early than the ones the staff brought in last season. (We're seeing that Fitz and Harrison) That reference was used more than once when he was talking about guys like Williams, Jones, Baldwin, et. al. and what may happen with Cotton and the playing rotation.

Then, if they are able to land Little? :eek1:

This may be old news to you (or everyone here) or it may be an update. I know in the thread @PhillyGirl posted about players you were interested in seeing Dom topped your list on offense. I'm still thinking Ross is the key. He, by the way, was described with one word, "solid."

Should be a good day for updates all around. I'm expecting my phone/email/etc. to blow up! Looking forward to the obs and comments this weekend into next week.

What's the QB situation?
Frail. Need height, weight, and game experience.

At least that's what the rumors are ...

I assume his updates are directly related to the 2026 recruiting class since I can't put these guys and today's scrimmage together. Maybe it's just me.

@TG1JAY My friend works with the offense so he's not going to have the progress reports on Sheffield like he has on guys on the other side of the ball. That said, the concensus is he, along with Fitz, are better at this stage than Humph and Brown were this time last year. Now, there are extenuating circumstances with the later pair like Brown dealing with some of his shoulder issues.

The feeling I'm getting is there is a genuine belief that combination of Sheff and Fitz will be one of best, if not the best, safety combo's in college football. Does it shake out that way? Who knows. Fitz is starting to push guys like Brown at corner. (I doubt we'll see complaints on that end.)

I'm not sure how to put this ... Sheff has almost taken a subservient type of role when he's working with Fitz at safety. It's not that Sheff doesn't have that defense QB mentality, but it's more of a case where Fitz is taking that role head on. Hell, in the three positions he practiced he's done a damn good job with every one.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the rotation works itself out in nickel. There is a very real possibility we see a grouping of Fitz and Jones on the corners with Geno manning the STAR and Eddie handling the "free safety" role. (Foster has been getting serious looks at MAC in that grouping.)

Fitzpatrick and Sheffield as the best safety duo? They're corners. But maybe they can be the best CB duo.

That's what I get for trying to type, talk, and train at the same time.

If I get in tomorrow and she screws up on the Berg system I'll have screwed up two things this morning.

@TerryP, I'm really looking forward to these monsters that we have recruited in the last 2 OL classes. Cotton is one that I have thought that could step in a lot like Cam did and possibly start. I look forward to the OL that we put on the field in the future. Then when you add the 2016 class and it's potential, HOLY SHIT!!! If Dom can keep the edge clean, any of our QBs can stay upright. If not, Chris Capps 2.0 is being witnessed! Still makes my head hurt!!! Cotton could be the replacement on the right side.
Barnett's ability to keep a play alive with his eyes, really makes me think that he may win this QB race and be THE MAN.

Ok, Coker 3-4 some nice passes and some scratching my head. Foster/Stewart look nice. Not sure why Drake didn't warm up he looks fine. Morris much more consistent and on target than Coker Imo. His passes lead recievers not behind them. Mtf.
