Alabama opens as early betting favorite over USC
The 2016 football season is still eight months away, so what better way to pass the time than with an early betting line.

Alabama opened as a double-digit, 14-point favorite over its 2016 season-opening foe, USC, according to 5Dimes.com.

The Crimson Tide and Trojans will kick off their seasons inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 3. The kickoff time and television selection have not yet been announced, but the game is likely set for prime time.

This past season, the Trojans finished with an 8-6 (6-3 Pac-12) record and lost to Wisconsin in the Holiday Bowl, 23-21.

The eighth season-opening contest inside Jerry World will be the eighth meeting between the two storied programs and the first regular-season matchup since the 1978 season -- a game USC defeated the Crimson Tide by a score of 24-14 in Birmingham. Alabama and USC also faced off in the 1985 Aloha Bowl. The Crimson Tide won that contest by a score of 24-3.

Alabama leads the all-time series against USC, 5-2, and will look to increase the win-column number on Sept. 3 when the Crimson Tide begins its quest to defend its title in Nick Saban's 10th season at the helms of the UA football program.

Ooo dats a big margin for a opener. Smart money is probably on USC

Losing Kessler at QB, 5 of the front 7 with Su'a Cravens going to the draft, some good depth, and finding a new punter (who I expect they'll need with a summer for CNS and staff to prepare)... I like our chances to cover.

Hubris aside. I'm very excited for this game. Good match ups on both sides.

I expect our experience and leaders on D to give us an edge to confuse a young QB who won't have a ground game to take the pressure off. Juju Smith is going to make plays, we just can't give up the big ones.

In turn, we need a RB to step up and for our QB not to lose the game. Very interested to see who wins the key jobs this Spring/Fall and am certain Kiffin will have a great plan to bring them along in a way that best fits their ability.

Kiffin will be out for blood. He's gonna hang 40 on the USC Condoms.

We've done well in season openers in recent years, I think we cover. Winning margins from '15 to '08, in reverse order, of 18, 10, 25, 27, 16 and 21 (09 and 10 I'm counting the second games with Penn State after warm ups against Kent and San Jose States) and 24 in 08 in a fair weather game (no thunder, no lightning).

RTR,

Tim
