🏈 Talent on hand across the SEC using the Blue Chip Ratio on the last several recruiting classes.

Talent wins championships. To that, no arguments, right? Let's add one thing with an eye on recruiting/player rankings as our 'base.' Research folk over on CBS threw some numbers out recently I've pulled from here ...

BCR - Blue Chip Ratio:

A team has to sign more four and five star players than it does two and three star guys. It's really that simple. There's been a strange anomaly on occasion. Take FSU in '13 as one example. 53% of that national title roster were blue chips. That's the lowest since 2011. Another side note to low percentages? Coming in just above that '13 FSU team is the 2023 Michigan squad: 54%.

In '11 Bama was at 71%. In 2012, 71%. Back to back title years and those two are the lowest in the Tide's BCR history for titles. I'll stand by the statement the 2020 team, offense especially, was the best in my lifetime. 83% of that roster? Four and five star kids coming out of high school: the blue chips. That's the second highest BCR since '11. Ohio State's team last season sported a roster of 90%.

So, how does this little venture down stats fit for this fall and the playoffs/title?

TEAMBCR
Ohio State, Alabama89%
Georgia84%
A&M82%
Oregon, Texas78%
LSU, Notre Dame73%
Oklahoma70%
Penn State68%
Miami, Florida, Auburn64%
Michigan, USC57%
Clemson55%
Tennessee, Florida State54%

Talent will not be what holds this team back this season (barring some ridiculous rash of injuries), that's for sure. And it's spread out all over the roster, which is good... not just heavy on one side of the ball or at a few select spots. A few select spots however, WR, CB, and S for example do have it in spades, to the point that any of those 3 positions could rival even the best groups during Saban's tenure. And the all important lines, OL and DL (on paper anyway) are championship level themselves. There's a lot to be excited about, even with the handful of unknowns that linger, if you're a Bama fan right now on the brink of fall camp.

Okay, let's go with this for a second.

If talent isn't the question, it comes down to coaching. Now that we're here, how is it fans fear the UGA offense under Bobo against Bama and Grubb?

FWIW, in my opinion, it's the attitude that is going to hold this team together. I know I've been beatin' this horse since spring camp: "the attitude and atmosphere inside the football department/building."

I'm leaning towards the position the biggest obstacle this season is going to be mental fatigue.

I think a good ratio of 70% or higher will get you most likely in the conversation most years. Obviously, there's a whole lot more than stars on a team to equal a championship though.

I'd be curious to see how many "blue chips" were on the Miami teams from the 80's and early 90's. Same with the Nebraska teams from the 90's.

Not ME!

The Blue Chip Ratio is a very interesting metric. I'm going to have to watch this more.

Mental fatigue..... regarding?

Could that be done with Nebraska?

To do so we'd need to pull up Forrest Davis and his magazines (he covered SE, not Mid-west.) And then, translate those. Langham was a 3+. Lynch was a 3.

Lindy's was around then, right? I don't know if they ranked high school kids; can't remember.

Meh. I don't have the time and energy. It's more fun to speculate. Lol.
The point that I had the time, or that I knew that ...
