🏈 T.J. Simmons leaving the Tide

Just this past week it was suggested to me to not be surprised if Ridley didn't get as many touches as we speculated he'd get when spring camp closed out. His reasoning was based on dispersion--he's seeing the touches spread around more with the receivers this fall.

For the last three months or so I've heard someone mention how the receivers have been doing. Since the arrival of Ruggs, Shavers, and a few others those stories have just increased in hype. When Jeudy hit camps we heard "watch." Reports were spot on with him. Ruggs is getting the same "hype" since he's been in Tuscaloosa.

A wide receiver leaving isn't what I'd consider shocking news. I didn't think it would be a guy like Simmons, but it's not a subject we spend a lot of time talking about either, is it? I don't know if the new guys hitting campus, and Simmons thinking what it might mean for him, has anything to do with this decision.

Very surprising. He seemed to have as good a shot as anyone to back up one of those spots and get a legit amount of snaps. Probably a great sign for the incoming freshman as Terry mentioned (Ruggs, Jeudy, Shavers), But this is also a good sign that Rob Foster is in beast mode. Maybe Cam Sims looking strong too. Thought TJ had a bright future at UA but maybe the others are brighter... RTR

Yep....he looked good in spring....
More to story then we know I am sure....
From AL and transfer to WVU...ummmmmm

I believe you will find it was grade related, if it gets out. West Virginia is a place where you can stay eligible. RICH Rod used to recruit academic casualties all the time. The fact they are a throw happy team is a plus for him but he lacks elite speed, isn't super tall or have that special wiggle. Probably a wise choice to allow him to get his degree since he was struggling and he may actually get to play some at WVU.

This one is very annoying... he looked VERY good at A-Day.

Why annoyed, Bird?

Either as some speculated he didn't have the grades or, more likely, he saw the writing on the wall. If he stays he's got experience for 2018 over the others (vs having to sit out a year before playing at WVU), so he was either being very selfish in terms of fear over lack of touches with so much competition (I tend to think NOT) or he realized that this year he'd be behind Foster and Ridley, maybe Sims, and NEXT year he'd be behind Jeudy, Smith, Ruggs et al (much more likely). This has been VERY quiet and he already has his landing spot, so maybe (conjecture here) he went to Saban and told the coach that he doesn't want to look over his shoulder and he's already found a landing spot, and Saban gave his blessing? End of story, and we wish him the best and move on. I don't think this hurts US, and I hope he'll do well.

While only a 3* coming in, he cracked the ST line up as a freshman and was very productive in the Aday game.... not sure about this one. Maybe he could see with Ruggs coming and Jeudy already there... this would be just another ST year? sit out this year (redshirt) he will have 3 to play 3 at WVU. At least Bama is down to 85. Best of luck and best wishes, #16

Nope.

We're still 1 shy of 85.

Over the years I've seen a few SEC academic casualties that ended up in the ACC. If the story is the same today as it was when I decided to look ... acceptance requirements is where the difference lies. Now, with APR, some of the newer transfer rules with academics on top, it's not quick transfer any longer. At least, that's how I understand this whole thing.

He could have as much as two years in; more than likely he's in that 18-20 credit hour range--second semester sophomore. I don't think that would put him under some type of academic probation at WVU and don't see them allowing an academic probationary student in...

Just doesn't compute with me (and that's certainly not saying it's not the case with the NCAA and their transfer policy.)

I just thought maybe he wanted to be in a cold dreary environment in the fall months. :-)

I haven't been following the numbers this year... but the Bone article about the transfer said we were down to 88, still needing 3 more to make the 85 limit by start of fall camp... I'm sure he could be wrong... again, I have no idea.
Did not see that article... I had Bama at 88 before Shawn Jennings and after he, OJ and TJ it would be 85. (not counting the Blue Shirts or the GS)... but I could be not counting someone.
