This isn't just pointed at you bammerboy but also a few others that posted in this thread too.

Dabo is a good friend, a great man, a great football coach and the example of what you want a student athlete to be like. He was Gene Stallings favorite player he ever coached. He was a walk on who earned his way on the field to get a scholarship and a leader of our program.

I grew up about a 15 houses down from him and dated my next door neighbor. I went to high school with the guy and he was always one of the kindest, coolest guys you could be around.

Now I don't know that he is what I would want as a head coach at Alabama, although he is capable of doing a great job and he knows the lay of the land.

That being said those of you calling him a tool or attacking his character.. Couldn't be further off base if you tried. He is a great guy and you would be lucky to have a friend as true blue as him. So say you don't want him or that he is a bad dancer or anything else you want but he was a model student athlete and coach here and is a super cool guy to know.

Yep I grew up on dalton drive in Chandalar South. I lived in about the middle of dalton drive and Dabo lived closed to the end. May have been a 1 minute ride by bicycle.

His brother and my older brother were very good friends.

Chandalar South. I hadn't even thought of that neighborhood in decades. I grew up in Westover, so Pelham was the big money, bign town we'd go to for major grocery runs to Food World, shorter trips to Columbiana. When they built the high school, I loved playing basketball against you guys because that rubber floor made you feel like you could jump a bit higher.

The story with Dabo has more than one part. All of it has to be taken into account.

All this is true. Like DuBose, he has a special place in history due to his time as a player. But then we get to the second part of Dabo's career ... coaching with the DuBose staff.

That entire staff played very loose with the rules. Their "rules" for players weren't strong enough to call loose.

As a head coach we've seen things that point to that mindset with Dabo. The way they pandered to Nkemdiche is one example of players establishing their own set of rules. Although, it makes perfect sense he's putting more W's up.

It's my opinion that Dabo at UA, at this point, wouldn't be a good fit. I think back to how Spurrier reacted to getting beaten by DuBose, losing Smiley, etc. I can see a coach reacting to Dabo that way ... especially when his time as a player, etc., is added in to the picture.

While I'd much prefer a guy like McElwain, Dabo wouldn't make me cry.
