🏈 Surprises

If we go on the assumption that any freshman that hasn't played yet is going to likely red shirt this year, who is your biggest surprise?

I think that Fluker will be most everyones first thought as I'm sure no one really expected in February that Carpenter would do so well but for me its Kendall Kelly. I loved Bowman's potential coming in but really thought Kelly would come in and make in impact quickly, second I think would be Ed Stinson.

Fluker definitely. More to learn at this level.

Although it is likely that any of the frosh who haven't played yet will be redshirted, Smelley did not see the field last year until the Ole Miss game. A combination of a problem at a particular position and a newcomer suddenly "getting it" will get the new guy on the field.

Lacy getting here on time or even at the beginning of Summer might very well have pushed Terry Grant out to the slot full time.As it is, Terry has responded great. If Fluker had been used as an OT all through high school, then he would've had been on the field by now, IMHO. His inexperience has held him back.

Funny you say that FL as I was just sitting here talking about Lacy with someone. I was telling him that Lacy was a tough one because he could likely step in and play right now but there isn't enough to carries to go around to justify not red shirting him I think. I would bet that he could be more effective than T. Grant running the ball but Grant has established himself as such a team player with such a great attitude that they want to get the guy on the field as a reward. The upside to this "problem" is that Lacy will be more than ready next year and I cant help but think that we could see Ingram leave out early so our one two punch could be Richardson and Lacy with a senior T. Grant 3rd string.

Ingram will still be here next year.

Yea I know looking back at how I wrote it now I guess my mind was working quicker than my fingers, I was actually referring to next year Ingram leaving, sorry about that. So actually my whole damn post makes no sense then because if he leaves after his Junior year then Grant will as well as he will be a senior.

Sigh its only Tuesday too and my brain is already flustered. Putting myself on post restriction now :dazed:

Fluker is my pick. I would say that sitting a year would help him grow into the position, but that does not apply to this physical marval. He will benefit from the year to study, which will help him maximize his potential here, which is good for him, which is good for Bama. However, no doubt having him one more year means that there is one more year that we will not have a slot to recruit a stud replacement for him.

I'm glad Carpenter has proven to be the real deal, affording Fluker the year to sit.

Haha! No problem man, we've all been there.

Doesn't he have a medical issue:headscratch:

I was at the last game and he was dressed out so i doubt it, but what worried me the most is that he didnt talk to anyone. He was all by himself the entire game and i think he ended up talking to eddie lacy towards the end of the 4th quarter.

It worries me a bit cause I expected he, like any teenager in college, would mingle in with the others. I was real excited over him and thought he would make an immediate impact but I hope he isnt one of those that will transfer after the season but im sure im getting ahead of myself
