TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama baseball chipped away at an early four-run deficit but was unable to complete the comeback, falling 4-2 to 10th-ranked Georgia on Friday evening at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Crimson Tide is now 23-16 on the season and 8-8 in Southeastern Conference play.

Georgia put up a four-spot in the first, highlighted by a three-run home run from Cole Wagner. The two teams then went scoreless until the seventh when Alabama's Dominic Tamez led off the inning with a solo home run. William Hamiter followed suit in the next inning, starting the eighth with a solo homer of his own to make it a two-run ballgame. After Hamiter's homer, the Tide was able to reach a pair with two down before a flyout to deep center ended the rally. The ninth saw Alabama bring the tying run to the plate with one out, but a 3-6 double play ended things in Georgia's favor, 4-2.

Nolan Crisp (1-1) earned the win for Georgia, working 5.2 scoreless innings and allowing five hits with five strikeouts. Jack Gowen picked up his seventh save of the season, holding UA scoreless over the final 1.1 innings. Alabama starter Garrett McMillan (4-3) was charged with the loss, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Following a four-run first, McMillan settled in to allow just two hits over the next 5.0 innings and retired the final eight batters he faced. Hunter Furtado and Braylon Myers then entered out of the bullpen, keeping the Bulldogs off the board for the final 3.0 frames.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon

"Garrett McMillan is our best pitcher; he is our dude. He came out tonight and was behind in the count to the first five batters of the game and that's not very typical of him. To Georgia's credit, they did a good job of making him pay for it. Now, to Garrett's credit, he did a great job after the first of settling in and really getting us to the middle of the game, putting up some zeros to give us a chance. If we would have been able to scratch a run or two here or there, it would have made a really big difference. Besides the top of the first, I thought it was a good college baseball game. It was very well played, very even, and we just did not do enough after the top of the first."

How It Happened

  • T1 | A sacrifice fly with the bases loaded crossed one for the Bulldogs. A three-run home run in the next at-bat from Cole Wagner added to the UGA advantage. (4-0, Georgia)
  • B7 | Dominic Tamez led off the frame with a solo shot to left to get the Tide on the board. (4-1, Georgia)
  • B8 | William Hamiter would cut into the lead with a solo home run to right. (4-2, Georgia)

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama baseball suffered a 3-0 loss to 10th-ranked Georgia on Saturday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The game two result clinched the series for the Bulldogs and moved the Crimson Tide to 23-17 on the season, 8-9 in Southeastern Conference play.

Both offenses were held at bay for a majority of the afternoon with Georgia plating three in the third for the game's only runs. Alabama had the bases loaded with two down in the seventh but a flyout to the warning track in right ended the rally and kept the Tide off the board. Jonathan Cannon (7-1) picked up the win, tossing a perfect game through 5.0 frames with six strikeouts, while Jack Gowen earned his eighth save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

Jacob McNairy (4-2) suffered the loss on Saturday despite a quality start for the Crimson Tide. The senior allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 6.0 innings of work. He gave up three hits and issued one walk leading to three runs in the third, but limited UGA to four hits and no runs the rest of his time on the mound. McNairy handed the ball off to the duo of Jake Leger and Luke Holman, who held the Bulldogs scoreless for a combined 3.0 frames with Holman contributing a pair of strikeouts.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon

"Obviously, a tough loss today. The wind's blowing in and it's really hard to score on days like that, so it's more important than ever to smother the other team with strikes. They got the big hit in the third, and we didn't really get any hits – that's the story of the game. Their starter, Jonathan Cannon, was outstanding and would have been good against any team today in any ballpark. We were overmatched for his five innings, but (Georgia) went to the bullpen and we got some guys on base, we just couldn't get the big hit."

How It Happened

  • T3 | The Bulldogs loaded the bases with two down before a double off the wall in right got UGA on the board. (3-0, Georgia)

Postgame Notes

  • Jacob McNairy issued one walk in today's start. The senior has allowed one or zero walks in nine of his 11 outings this season.
  • McNairy tossed 6.0 innings in the start and has recorded 5.0-or-more innings pitched in six of his seven starts in 2022.
  • With his 1-for-4 day, Drew Williamson has recorded a hit in six straight games. Over that streak, the senior is batting .385 (10-26) with a triple, a home run, four RBI, and three runs scored.
  • Williamson has reached base safely in 16 straight games dating back to March 27.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama baseball blanked 10th-ranked Georgia on Sunday for the 3-0 shutout win. The victory in the series finale moves the Crimson Tide to 24-17 overall and 9-9 in Southeastern Conference play.

Sunday's matchup was yet another pitcher's duel, this time favoring the Crimson Tide. Alabama's pitching staff allowed a season-low tying three hits on the way to the shutout victory. The Tide offense was able to do enough, plating one in the fourth on a solo homer from Drew Williamson. Andrew Pinckney followed with a two-run shot in the fifth to add to the Tide advantage on the way to the 3-0 win.

Grayson Hitt (4-1) delivered when the Tide needed it, picking up the win on Sunday. The sophomore recorded 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just three hits and two walks to go with seven strikeouts. Brock Guffey and Dylan Ray followed for a combined 3.0 frames, with Ray collecting his fifth save of the season thanks to 2.0 scoreless, hitless innings with two strikeouts.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon

"I told the kids before the game – I didn't use the phrase 'must win' – but 'we really need to get a win today.' We weren't going to run from it or hide from it; we can't get swept at home this deep in the season. I thought the kids responded, and we played a really good game today. Obviously, Grayson Hitt was just fabulous, (Brock) Guffey was really sharp in his inning and then (Dylan Ray) was pretty electric to close it out. We also did enough offensively against a very good Georgia team."

How It Happened

  • B4 | Drew Williamson went opposite field for a solo home run. (1-0, Alabama)
  • B5 | Caden Rose got aboard with a one-out single. The Tide center fielder then came around to score with two down thanks to a two-run homer from Andrew Pinckney. (3-0, Alabama)

Postgame Notes

  • The shutout is Alabama's first since March 5 of last year at College of Charleston.
  • The shutout in conference play was UA's first since April 5, 2019, when Alabama blanked South Carolina.

  • The three hits are the fewest allowed by Tide pitchers in an SEC game since April 23 of last season at Kentucky when the UA staff also allowed three hits.
  • With his 1-for-4 day, Drew Williamson has recorded a hit in seven straight games. Over that streak, the senior is batting .367 (11-30) with a triple, two home runs, five RBI, and four runs scored.
