since fderalized.. which was when?
1965 states started doing what the federal government mandated to get subsidies. Imo states absolutely should run their own education system as it's just become another way for the federal government to control something else they have no business meddling in. What does our federal government run successfully that would indicate they should run anything?

what's difference between before 1965 and after 1965? IJS. I don't think education was that great before 1965.....

I wasn't alive so can't say. Can say that the folks i know who were educated back then seem to have a lot more common sense but that's probably because they worked and had tasks to do all their lives so they figured out how to make them easier rather than figuring out cheat codes on video games.

I'm not saying what the federal government did was good or bad but I do believe it is another thing they have gotten involved in that they shouldn't have. I'm a proponent of state government governing the people of that state not federal. Obviously federal has a place but they just keep growing and getting involved in more things that they were not intended for.

One thing I don't agree with federal on was the "no child left behind" way of teaching. Some people were born for manual labor and some to be astrophysicists. You can't teach them the same and expect the same results unless you don't challenge one of them and try to turn that one into a manual laborer as well imo.

Let's change the framing here a bit. And, use framing as the analogy.

A person in 1965 versus a person in 1990. Who are you going to trust to give you an accurate read on a tape measure? We can argue education versus parenting on this small example. I didn't grow up with a father and know how to read a measure. So, it's education.

I'm am with the idea of disbanding the DOE. There's no better reason than what we just saw with Covid. But more so because the kids coming out of school now a day are, not all cases, some dumb phucks. Seriously. Go to the store and throw the change down on a purchase AFTER they rang it up...see how long it takes for them to do the math. It happened today on a $8.13 purchase and I told them "just give me .75" after I gave her $9. She was confused as hell.

Kids sitting around not doing anything, watching TV, playing video games, watching tiktok, just being stimulated while being idle, is what is killing their interests and stymying their development. And those of young adults. This article puts it well, using the terms Dopamine Culture and The Dopamine Cartel. I'll start with a key graphic, then link to the article itself.

Find your places on the chart. Culture has been replaced by mindless entertainment, which in turn has been supplanted by compulsive behavior.

It's why deliberate activities, physical exercise, outside pursuits, have all been determined to be healthy for a person. They used to be regular activities, now they're viewed as therapy. All of the big nothing apps - Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc. - are damaging to humans as they use them more. For me, I can see it happening with YouTube. I grew up tearing down beaver dams on a property we had, and there were five dams I'd tear out each day when I got home from school. Now, I can sit and watch someone else tear down a beaver dam, or someone else build an off-grid cabin. It's great to see how to do something on YouTube, but when I move to just watching instead of learning to do, it's pure waste and stimulation.

What does it mean for the hard worker, the person with their eye on the prize? They become more and more remarkable for their dedication, and I would say it gets easier to get ahead - until you start trying to hire other people.

Dump the DOE? It might improve things in some places. It didn't exist in its current form until 1980, when it was separated from Health/Education/Welfare, which itself was created in 1953. Federalizing education was an outgrowth from discrimination in education.

And yes when the DOE ā€œencouragedā€ school districts (threatened) to drop true civics lessons and put a larger emphasis on social issues rather than reading writing & arithmetic. Yes the DOE has dumbed down schools. Yes the DOE is another waist of our money. The states (the worst of them) if left in charge will eventually have to straighten up some, out of sheer competition!!!!!

So it's the states' fault, rather republican states, that the overseer of education isn't making them do what they're supposed to? Are education systems in blue states better?

Is it the political affiliation or is it that their parents put more importance on education?
