📝 Stephon Wynn commits to Bama

I saw someone mention this over on BOL. I'd agree with them and what I think you're referring to with the caps.
Two things, really. One, the Bama cap looked like it was the only one that had been sized to fit (tried on, at least.) And two, that UofSC cap is one of those Walmart type grabs based on what I've seen around town. The Bama cap...a little bit of cash there...30 bucks or so is where I recall seeing it priced the last time I was in Lids.
Sitting exactly where they were July 1st, 2014. That year they took 26.
Technically, the '18 class sits at nine--16 more spots available.

Well, the 15 class was written off as a number one group by the media but closed hard on signing day and last season it was more about keeping what we had on board. Every year has a different feel and a different goal and a different number.

Changed even more dramatically this season with the new rules. I still see people saying fans need to be concerned despite being told by more than one, more than once, the staff is taking a slower approach this season.
But do the recruits start to believe that stuff? I don't know, but I don't think the press does much without trying to make as big an impression as possible. I'm sure the recruits this year are being told that the numbers will be tight, The DE we had to commit today sounds like he is all in.

Considering how many recruits wanted to come to Bama and there wasn't room, yeah, they believe that stuff.
For some other schools I'm sure they don't. If we look at Emmitt Gooden, the DT who visited Bama in the last few weeks, he was told the staff was going to look at more JUCO players before issuing him a committable offer--if there was one coming. He immediately committed to Arkansas afterwards. Is that solid? There's no telling today.

Alabama landed a big commitment both literally and figuratively on Saturday in four-star defensive end Stephon Wynn.
“Alabama is one of the best places in the country,” Wynn told 247Sports’ Jake Rowe following his announcement. “As soon as we got into Tuscaloosa (on June 10), it was just a different feel than anywhere else in the country. Coach (Karl) Dunbar is a great defensive line coach; he coached 11 years in the league. So I’m going to get NFL experience from the coaching in college.”
Wynn chose the Tide over fellow SEC foes Georgia and South Carolina.
“As soon as I left,” Wynn said of when he knew he would commit to Alabama. “As soon as I got back home me and my parents talked and they asked if that was what I wanted to do. I want to have a chance to play in the NFL and be successful. I want to win ball games. I want to have fun. I want to have the chance to be something my dad taught me to be.”
The South Carolina native, who is currently enrolled at IMG Academy in Florida, said Georgia finished No. 2 for his commitment.
“If I didn’t go visit Alabama, I’d be committed to Georgia right now,” Wynn said. “At the end of the day I feel Alabama is the best place for me.”
Should Bama fans expect Wynn to continue taking visits elsewhere?
“Right now at this point I’m done,” he said. “At IMG I really don’t have any time to take any visits. I might have a couple weeks for an official visit, but as of right now I’m done. I’m Alabama.”
At 6-foot-4, 285 pounds, Wynn is rated the No. 5 strong-side defensive end and the No. 104 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Wynn, a 2018 recruit from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., is set to reveal the decision in his hometown of Anderson, S.C.
It will be carried live on Facebook from the Anderson Recreation Center.
Ahead of the announcement, here are five things to know about the prospect who’s deciding between the Crimson Tide, Bulldogs and Gamecocks.
In memory of …
According to a recent story from Lake Morris of the Anderson Independent Mail, there’s special meaning behind his decision date.
“My grandmother passed away July 1, when I was in middle school, so I’m doing this in her memory,” Wynn said. “I also wanted to do this in my hometown where everything started.
“I wanted everyone who has played a role in my development, who has been a part of my life, the chance to be there.”
Clemson legacy
Wynn’s father, who shares the same name, was a tight end for Clemson from 1993-1994. His mom went to school there, too, so the family’s ties are pretty significant, though not necessarily as deep as diehard Tigers.
“I was never really taught to not like South Carolina,” he told SEC Country, during an interview in 2016. “Growing up, we went to a lot of Clemson games when I was young, so that’s all I knew when I was young. I’ve been taking it all in. I don’t have any favorites. I’m just going to take in every school.”
Clemson, which had an early offer on the table, was once a factor in Wynn’s recruitment, but interest faded with time and both parties went their separate ways.

Straight outta Hanna
Before transferring to IMG earlier this year, Wynn spent his first couple of high school years at T.L. Hanna, a proud, tradition-rich program in Anderson.
As a junior, Wynn had 77 total tackles, including 10 for loss. He also led the team in sacks (9.5) and quarterback pressures (21). A year earlier, Wynn notched 73 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 4 sacks.
In the footsteps
Those familiar with recruiting in the state of South Carolina probably already know about Wynn’s former teammate at T.L. Hanna, defensive end Zacch Pickens, who’s listed as the No. 27 overall prospect in the Class of 2019, per the 247Sports composite rankings.
Pickens lists earlier offers from Georgia and South Carolina, in addition to Florida State, Michigan and Tennessee.
Wynn also has a younger brother who could eventually emerge on the recruiting radar. Ryan Wynn will be a freshman at T.L. Hanna this fall, but since he’s still growing at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, it would be premature to say much beyond that.
However, Ryan is a good, solid growth spurt away from finding a spot in the line of prospects from the school.

For most of the last few months, Georgia was thought to be the favorite, a heavy one at that. However, in recent weeks, the tune has changed.
