everyone seems to think that star gave a bad performance at the A-day game. Has anyone considered that the rules of the game hindered the performance? I did not think that his passing abilities were substandered but I believe that his game was hindered by the no contact senerio of the game. I think that we have been to quick to write him off. please give me some feedback. Does anyone else think that he can be a big conributor in the future?

I don't understand how the "rules of the game" figures into your thoughts here. I'd like to hear more about that.

The one thing that makes me reserve judgment on Star right now is how the game was set up. Granted, it was two's versus two's, but considering how we rotate our defensive line, it really wasn't our second string OL facing our 2nd string DL.

There is a HUGE talent gap between our backup offensive lineman and the defensive lineman they faced on A-day. That fact alone can really skew any opinion on how Star will end up after Greg leaves.

i thought he did ok. if the routes he was asked to throw were the same in a game tomorrow, he'd probably throw 50-55%. his arm strength sure looks a lot better than in high school. i look forward to seeing him grow at Alabama. i hope he hangs in there.

btw his stats don't reflect that a couple or three of the throws from what i remember were perfect but were dropped by the receiver.

There were a few dropped balls. I think he may have been referring to the "one hand touch" sacks that may have limited Star's chances of using his legs. There were several times I saw him wait too late to get rid of the ball. His internal clock has got to speed up. He'll be fine in the future.

That's my thoughts, too. Star is a mobil qb that relies on his legs to make things happen, and he's elusive, but the one hand touch sack really hurt his performance. Normally, he would get away and make a throw, but as soon as anyone touched him, he was down. So yeah, I think he'll make some contributions in the future, and is better than the A-day stats.

LOL He did ok I guess. I dont think he is even close to starting for the Tide.

Star's performance in the spring didn't indicate he was ready to lead this team. I expect him to improve this fall and be a capable backup, but Greg was easily the front runner all through spring practices. Star still holds the potential, he just has to put it all together. Like Terry mentioned, you can't take much from his performance in the A-Day game with the 2nd string OL.

Only time will tell with Star and it's obvious he needs more time to develop. One thing is for sure though, the competition is going to heat up with McCarron coming in and both Sims next year. Definitely going to be fun to what unfolds!
