šŸ“” Staff additions/changes: Reports: Craig Kuligowski hired as defensive line coach

@gc90 echoing off of what @uagrad93 mentions you also didn't have Locksley calling the plays when he was at New Mexico. We see coordinators as a crap shoot often today. But, we don't see head coaches calling offensive plays often. That's one of the reasons FSU was questionable. Oh, it's New Mexico.

That said, his offenses have been some bad ones as well. One thing I recall is horrible when it came to turnover ratios. He certainly can be successful here. But, it won't be because of what he did at Maryland or what he did at some other school.

I am talking about a bama fan who lives in Albuquerque who called in related to his off field issues incl sexual harrasment and the firing etc
Read up on that and make your own conclusion. The University had some interesting things to say including how wrong the sexual harassment characterization was in the first place.

He punched the hell out of another coach one time. That has nothing to do with he may be doing this fall.

Didn't hear about it. Don't put it past someone to have filed sexual harassment. Difference between someone filing and someone being guilty though. If it is true I am sure it will come out.

I once had someone file sexual harassment on me when I was 21 years old working at a country club. The lady who filed it was a 61 year old 300 lb black women who worked in the kitchen. I may have seen her twice in my time there riding in the employee elevator. It was a ridiculous claim and the Director there knew it was. There was zero chance I would have said more that hello to the lady and I was reeling in good looking tail from all over town at that point. He called me in, told me what the claim was, I told him it was false and he said that he knew it was but that he was advised to let me go from the attourney no matter if I was guilty or not. Same lady ended up sueing them over a different claim 2 months later.

I say that to say this. Someone filing doesn't make it true because there will always be some people out there trying whatever they can to get paid and he makes good money.

His offense plan was good against us but I'm not sure that was more Kelly talent than how they attacked us. Both of those games Could have gone either way. Now if he brings Katie Perry with him............................Just saying

University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban announced the hiring of Jeff Banks Thursday to serve as the special teams coordinator for the Crimson Tide.

ā€œWe are pleased to be able to add a coach the caliber of Jeff Banks to our staff as special teams coordinator,ā€ Saban said. ā€œJeff is well-respected across the country for his knowledge of the game and his ability to recruit. He is a great teacher and someone who will help our football team be successful. We are pleased to welcome Jeff and his family to Tuscaloosa.

Banks comes to Alabama after five years as the tight ends and special teams coordinator for Kevin Sumlin at Texas A&M. The Aggies boasted one of the nation’s top special teams units, ranking third nationally in net punting in 2017 and seventh in 2016. A&M also featured a top punt return unit, ranking second nationally this past season, averaging 17.1 ypr. He coached punter Drew Kaser to All-America honors in 2013 after averaging 47.4 ypp.

ā€œI am thrilled to have the opportunity to join Coach Saban’s staff at The University of Alabama and work with such a talented group of student-athletes,ā€ Banks said. ā€œCoach Saban has built an unbelievable program that has a long tradition of success. I’m really excited to get out on the road recruiting, and I look forward to doing my part to help continue the success this program has enjoyed.ā€

Prior to arriving at Texas A&M in 2013, Banks spent one season as the running backs coach and special teams coordinator at Virginia after having coached running backs and coordinated special teams for nine years at UTEP (2004-12). During his time in El Paso, Banks oversaw one of the top special teams units in Conference USA as the Miners led the league in special teams statistics in 2011 and 2012. In 2009, Banks’ running back Donald Buckram broke UTEP’s season rushing record that had stood for over 60 years by rushing for 1,594 yards.

Banks served as an assistant coach at Idaho State from 2000-03 where he was the special teams coordinator, recruiting coordinator and running backs coach. Idaho State led the nation in net punting twice in his three seasons. Banks got his coaching start as a graduate assistant under Mike Price at Washington State from 1998-2000, where he worked with the offense and the punters and kickers.

As a player, Banks was a two-time all-conference punter for Washington State, posting a 42.8 yard average as a junior and 43.4 yard average as a senior. In his final season, he led the Pac-10 and was No. 15 nationally while helping the Cougars go 10-2 and earn an invitation to the Rose Bowl. Banks was also selected to participate in the Senior Bowl.

Banks and his wife, Kori, have a daughter, Sydnei, and two sons, Gage and Tanner. Banks earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Washington State in 1999.

All such employment contracts are subject to approval by The University of Alabama Board of Trustees.

Rick, my point was Mike Dubose, our first coach named Mike, was pretty successful as a position coach for Coach Stallings but couldn’t handle the job as head coach once he got it.
We’ve had three head coaches named Mike as Terry noted in his reply.
Yes, when I first read this I thought you were talking about Mike S. That's why I said two, then Terry said three. But how do we count Mike P. because he was hired and fired, but never coach.

Alabama to hire Stevon Moore as defensive analyst

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Nick Saban is set to bring in a familiar face to his coaching staff as sources have told BamaInsider.com Alabama will hire Stevon Moore as a defensive analyst.

Moore, who played for the Cleveland Browns under Saban and current New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, most recently served as the defensive backs coach at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College from 2002-17. While at MGCCC, Moore coached former Alabama defensive tackle Terrence Cody as well as current Alabama players defensive end Isaiah Buggs and cornerback Saivion Smith.

A former defensive back at Ole Miss, Moore was drafted by the New York Jets in the seventh round of the 1989 NFL Draft. He played his first two seasons in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins (1990-91) before playing for Belichick and Saban with the Browns. While Belichick served as the Browns head coach, Saban was Moore’s defensive coordinator from 1992-94. Moore remained with the organization through its move to Baltimore and retired from the Baltimore Ravens in 1999.

In 97 NFL starts, Moore intercepted 10 passes and had 55 tackles. He had 115 tackles in 1992 and had five picks in 1995. He won the Ed Block Courage Award in 1998.

After his playing days, Moore spent time as a part-time scout for the New England Patriots before joining MGCCC as a volunteer coach from 2000-01.

I tell you what, Locksley sure has those WRs ready to run a crap ton of good looking routes in the second half of the NCG. Quite significant given the tiny amount of action any of those younger receivers has seen smeared across the whole season. They were ready.

Report: SEC won’t stand in way of Alabama hiring Hugh Freeze

Will the SEC have a problem with Alabama hiring former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze if Nick Saban decides to go in that direction?

It depends on who you ask.

On Wednesday, TideSports.com’s Aaron Suttles reported that SEC commissioner Greg Sankey ā€œisn’t keen onā€ the idea of Saban adding Freeze to his staff just months after the former Rebels coach left Ole Miss amid an NCAA investigation that resulted in sanctions for the program. Freeze was mired in controversy over his use of a university cell phone to contact escorts.

RELATED: Report: Nick Saban wants to hire Hugh Freeze at Alabama, but 2 major issues stand in way

As it turns out, the SEC may not have the power to stand in the way of Saban bringing Freeze aboard in Tuscaloosa.

CBS Sports college football insider Dennis Dodd reports that his sources say ā€œthe SEC does not have the ability to stand in the way of Saban hiring Freeze.ā€

Dodd’s CBS counterpart Tom Fornelli went on to explain: ā€œWhile an SEC bylaw states a school is supposed to consult commissioner Greg Sankey when it wishes to hire an individual with major NCAA violations, the hiring decision is ultimately made by the school, not the conference.ā€

Freeze received a two-game suspension from the NCAA in the fallout of the Ole Miss sanctions, but that’s only applicable for a head coach position. He does not face any restrictions as an assistant coach or an analyst.

If the Crimson Tide does make a move for Freeze, it appears increasingly likely that it will be for some role other than the vacant offensive coordinator position. That spot on the staff, which was vacated by new Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Brian Daboll after one season, appears to be in the future of Crimson Tide wide receivers coach Mike Locksley.

So, I'm telling myself to get ready to accept Freeze having a position at UA. Part of that process includes what'll be like to see him on the field, in Crimson. There's a part of me that's no fan of the move.

I think the guy can coach and would be an interesting coach to have in our corner. My biggest thoughts are recruiting. I know Saban wouldn't hire him if he thought it was an issue. I just think it is a "stigma" that will have to be overcome with a lot of folks using it negatively against us.

Locksley has had his own set of off field issues... Including some sexual harrassment charges that I believe were settled out of court.

Think a few things happened at UNM that got him fired.

Yet another participant for the SRP - Saban Rehab Program.

Come in, do your time, leave a changed man!!!! And make dat $.

Ha Ha, I was trying to find a way to describe what Saban does to reinvigorate and rebuild broke down coaches, but you came up with the best title. I like it, and it should cost as much as one of those Beverly Hills rehab stays celebrities pay for, especially for what you actually get in return from the one in Tuscaloosa and a rebuilt reputation that gets you a bigger gig.
