From those of you who actually attended in person, I'd like to hear some comments regarding the Stadium experince in light of the changes and changes underway.

~With the construction, how was getting into town and into your seats?
~Did the new speaker system make a big difference?
~Were there comments about the new field (i.e. red endzones)?
~What impact is construction having on the South endzone seating?
~How did the lack of the large scoreboard impact the experience?

1. No problem with parking or getting to my seats
2. New speaker system crackled a few times at the beginning and really didnt notice anything great about it
3. Didnt hear a person say anything about the endzones but my dad noticed
4. South Endzone was not full
5. I missed having that scoreboard a ton, they only had 2 running at the stadium and the one on the east side just had the score and time on it so if you wanted to watch replays you had to look and the one on the west side
 
So if you're sitting in the north upper deck is there anything that displays at least the clock? Probably gonna get tickets up there for a game later this year so I assume we won't have a scoreboard to look at.

RE: Speakers. Disappointing, but I suspect that having a year before they unvail the "new" BDS again, they will have some things worked out. Although, that huge scoreboard did provide a large platform on which speakers could be placed. Without it, I'm not sure how one brings big sound to the stadium.

RE: South Endzone. With the South Endzone being general admission, I wonder what might happen if they just opened the gates to non ticket holders around 15 minutes before kickoff. If at the point they see that they have 4000 empty seats, and they should be able to identify an exact number, they could make it first-come, first-serve to the rest of the student body. Then if there are still unfilled seats at kick off, fill it with those fans who could not get a ticket otherwise...rumor has it that there is a waiting list for people trying to give the university money just to get in.

RE: the field. Did they have any Gucci grass-mowing pattern on the field. It seems every year at teh A-Day game they have patterns on the field that make Aliens leaving Crop Circles envious, but when game time comes around it looks like the mowing B-team was called in.

RE: Missing Scoreboard. I suppose it pretty much sucks being in the upper deck in the north endzones. They have the worst seats in the house and can't see a scoreboard, which adds emphasis to the issue of empty "cheap"-seats in the South Endzone.

-Getting onto and out of the campus isn't too much of an issue if you use the back streets. Parking is an issue however when you arrive 2 hours before kickoff like I did... so I had to walk a pretty long way, but that is fine.

-Sounded better, but needs a lot of work. The speaker closest to our section was pumping out a ton of static whenever they played music... sounded like a blown speaker, but I don't think it was. The system wasn't as loud as I thought it would be (but I'm sure it could have gotten louder), but it was definitely clearer than the old system (in sections other than mine anyway). Hopefully, they will get the kinks worked out with it... and lose the Dixeland delight CD.

-Loved the field.

-That is where I was sitting (Shoutout to Bama Delta!), and it really didn't appear to be impacted. The only noticeable impact that I could see is those folks have to use different (less convenient) gates to enter the stadium and take a more scenic route to their seats, but again, not a big deal. The area along Bryant Dr. behind the stadium gets very congested after the game with everyone filing out in such a limited area, but it is what it is.

-I can live with the smaller scoreboards for this season while we wait on the other 2 to pop up next year (I've heard that all will be replaced with new, larger ones next year, but not sure how accurate that is), but what I don't care for is they way the ribbon boards are used. I understand that advertisements have to run these days, but every once and a while, can we get a rundown on the game stats, drive stats, player stats, etc? I don't care to look at "AT&T Wireless, the only Cell Phone Provider that Big Al Allows in Bryant-Denny" while at the same time seeing that I have NO SERVICE on my AT&T iphone for the entire game. Also, the scoreboard operator was having issues last night, especially int he down and distance department... it would be 2nd and 5, and dude would have 3rd and 9 up on the board for some reason. He seemed to get better as the game went on, but it was as if he was learning how to operate the thing on the fly or something...

That was what I wanted to do... follow some other scores, and keep up with the in-game stats with our game... but no dice. AT&T coverage has always sucked in this area, and it gets even worse on gamedays... I guess I was just hoping that now that we have 3G, things would be different.

back to the ribbon boards...

Its bad enough we have to look at nothing but ads on these damn things! They should at least make the ad in be in red or white. I really dont want to see any other colors on our in stadium.



Somebody HAS to tear down that orange and white checkerboard flag on that one crane prior to Tenn week:swear:
 
Parking was terrible our lot was full 5 hours before game time.. so much for being near the stadium and having clean bathrooms and a/c.

My iphone doesn't work at all in Ferg or in the stadium it drives me NUTS I ***** at BLUE AND ORANGE booths that AT&T sets up about the horrible service I get on campus makes me feel better for about 30 seconds ..:lol:

We sat in the North upper deck our normal seats are in the South endzone.. I liked the seats but not having a screen to watch replays and so forth was HORRIBLE!!!

Other than that we had a great time as usual.

ps IF YOU TAILGATE ON THE QUAD CONGREGATE IN YOUR TENT NOT ON THE SIDEWALK WHERE PEOPLE CAN'T THROUGH, BECUASE AS YOU LEARNED AFTER I SAY EXCUSE ME 3 TIMES, I WILL WALK THROUGH YOUR TENT AND MOVE YOUR CHAIRS THE HELL OUTTA MY WAY :shock::rofl::rofl::rofl:
 
-The sound system was loud.
-I think the "colored" end zones are sharp.
-We parked over by the museum at approximately 11:30am and got out with no problem.
-I was fortunate enough to be in the northeast corner, so I could look at the other replay board with no problem. I've never seen a game at BDS before, so I have nothing to gauge it against re: no scoreboard.

Other thoughts:
-BDS does a much better job giving updated national scores throughout the game than Utah's stadium. That made up some for the complete lack of service from AT&T.
-Smoking in the concourse was a unique experience.
-Walk of Champions was a lot of fun.
-The pregame intro video was real nice. Utah's marketing staff couldn't be bothered to update the highlights from week-to-week for theirs, so that was unique as well.

I had a great time in my first trip to Tuscaloosa. I'm glad it didn't rain; the tailgating enthusiasm blew my mind; and 92k for a football game is truly impressive.
 
The last time I went, I sat in the recent stadium expansion, all the way at the top..

And I have to say getting up to my seat was terrible..

The stairs were very steep.. my sister ended up collapsing towards the top.

I can't comment on much of anything else, because last I attended was Saban's first year.
 
i have parked by the museum a few times myself but nothing was available by the time i got there and the soccer field was filling up so we parked behind arby's for 10 bucks and found out you can park at arby's for 10 bucks this year. I wonder if Arby's is charging that or who? I guess if it is Arby's if something happens to your car they would be responsible
 
Glad you enjoyed yourself Ute. (as already said the expierence for an SEC tilt is much more intense)

DId you wear your UTE gear? If so how were you treated?

HAd you been to Alabama (state) before or first trip? Thoughts?

Did you do anything special other than the game?

BAsically a trip rundown is what Im asking for! :lol:
