🏈 Spring game. "Modified"

Thats really true. I use to take my kids. Gkids. And they could meet players n get autographs. Was fantastic. Guys were good to kids and had a chance to talk n visit And some even signed were u could read name. Most! Then saban shut that all down. Except for couple hours. Then just for big boosters. Pathetic Sorry it was. But couldnt read player scribble any more anyway. So i guess it didn't matter.

My granddaughter still has he sweatshirt with lots of autographs from 90s. And its her treasure

And game was fun. Half time dodgeball.

In early times. Early 60s. Late 50s. . They let some fans on field with players. I was a kid. That was cool. See if i can find a poster autographed
I learned my signature from Jeff Dunn during Fan Day my freshman year. He told me “just make sure they can make first and last initial and your number! No one gives a shit about penmanship!”😂

So true ...
Amazing too.

But my stuff from 60s/70s. Guys wrote with pride their name.
Seems more in 2000s on. It got worse

I could see what your saying though. If you did a lot

Being at the QB table, so yeah, I wrote a lot! After about 50, I was shaking my hand, trying to get some feeling back in it when Jeff gave me the advice. From that moment forward, no one could forge my signature!!!

Hate it for the fans that don't have the means to go to a game. The game atmosphere of A-Day gave them a taste of that for free. Walk of Champions, cheerleaders, refs, past players. TV cameras etc.

Easy to dismiss when you're in it, but means a lot to a lot of people.
Nothing has changed. It's still a practice. Let's call bullshit where it's due. The day has always been what you make of it. They open the stadium and let us watch practice.

Hell, imagine watching the 1's working on goal line situations on one end and the 2's running drills on the other. I'm all for that! My best years in Tuscaloosa were found on the sidelines at practice...until that was restricted.

"ESPN (Alabama) killed the spring game experience." It started going downhill, rapidly, when people were turned away from BDS...

My very first 'Bama Tuscaloosa experience was the spring game in 2006 on my B-Day. The team was signing all around Coleman & Shula was on the BasketBall court. The family & I waited in line. Shula took a picture & signed my football "Happy Birthday Jason & Roll Tide!" Got DeMeco to sign my son's hat.

Early that morning I got a pan of Dreamland ribs. Heated them up with a stove, put on some wielding gloves & carried that pan into the upper deck & ate ribs all game long.

It was a fantastic experience notwithstanding the upcoming season.

Exactly. Aday was always so much fun. My kids n gkids still talk about ...as a kid...how awesome it was. And getting on field after game.

We never participated in nicks "fast n furious " 45 minute autograph sessions.... just wasnt the same as around Coleman ....

And sure as hell wasnt gonna contribute more money to participate

You missed the point and only viewing it from your experience. Understand most will never get that experience, and when that was a game like environment it pulled full capacity. Refs, concessions, Walk of Champions etc made a difference. "Make it what you want"??? That's simply selfish, because some aren't capable of producing that environment and need that assistance to make it that way. Going to the model of timed sessions watching guys bump up against each other and shedding foam padding is nothing near what a game brings.

Also to note, you don't even attend or care to, so how much easier for you to be on board with whatever the university throws out there?

over the years, you have to change with times.... Good or Bad. I'm with Terry on this. I personally don't care for all the extra stuff going on at A day. I just wanted to see the players lined up, who's the best personnel, etc. Then after the game, I mean practice, I would grab a bite to eat and head on home. :D

Woah now, Nellie. Don't care to attend? Dude, I stopped by a rugby practice last night just to watch a practice. Don't throw that out here. It is not worth driving eight hours back and forth on a weekend for me. I don't like 100K on a game day. I do like watching a practice.

Has the plan been lain out for what they are going to do on A-day?

No. Only one word; modified.

And people are losing their shit. It may be bad for a fan...but damn, can't we avoid jumping off the cliff while we're still in the boat...haven't even landed ashore?

I would sit on the steps of Gorgas for a minute. Visit more than one classroom. More than one building. Adding it all up I have more than a decade in that town, on that campus.

I wish Rose Towers was still there...one of the best student apt.'s I had at UA...watching the sun over the river.

'tis what you make of it.

Really. You dont like "100K on a game day". Wow

I like watching them line vs LSU or TN or AU.
Thats incredible!!!!! A practice for the public.
Geeze. Thats a practice within a practice

Last year was modified enough.
I have been to many Adays. Some good. Some not so much
And been to couple hundred games.
Same as above

Aday is a special occasion. And as
@Justneedme81 put it. Gotta change with times. Guess thats true.

But with @BamaFan334 feeling about Aday.

Exactly, YOU don't want to drive, but maybe others do? What if they modified that rugby practice to no longer allow you to watch? That's the point. You always go to the extreme, and by saying "people are losing their shit" by just simply stating it's not a popular decision to them.

The funny thing it that Alabama wants everyone's money and donations to build all these facilities, give the best experience every, offer theatrics with light shows and experiences, but now all of a sudden wants to claw that back. All athletics are entertainment after all.

There is no decision. Just a word. Literally, criticing something you don't know ... no one does at this point here.

Change with the times? What is changing exactly? I'm a little lost I guess. One coach at Nebraska cancels and all of a sudden everything is changing? And that's always the worst response to situations like these, "well, just change who you are". Well, let me ask you, why can't you change your mindset or feelings? That's the same easy argument in business when revenue numbers aren't where they need to be and you hit the easy button and "well, just raise our prices" while not understanding the true issue at hand.

In the end, it's bigger than me, but telling me to "change with the times" is the quickest way to get an "eff you" from me. Also, changing with the times has fucked college athletics, so let that sink in as well.
