8.5 point spread against Florida State?!?!?

We're a 2 point dog AT HOME to a UGA team that lost to Kentucky AND Vandy last year and it's the FSU spread that bothers you?

UGA had a true freshman QB last year, who finished the year strong, and is expected to do big things this year, plus it's only two points...but Florida State still doesn't even know for sure who their QB will be, and they're favored by more than a TD...so, yea

That FSU line will move by 5 points come kickoff. I think they don't have much till us, except a trip out to Colorado.
If FSU is winning and lets say Bama is rolling and can get there with 1 loss, or none, then the spread could be 1, either way.

UGA -2 @ Bama, doesn't bother me. UGA is a solid team and their QB is going to be a ton better this year. We have to prove we can win these games and starting with Ark at home before UGA will even that game out.

Quite honestly I'm surprised we're not a 7 point dog or more to Georgia. Over the last few years I think we've earned the distinction of being home underdogs especially since the Mississippi State disaster last year, at home! Georgia is touted as being a strong team, and Saban can't fix this team quite fast enough for us to be favorites. Do I personally think we can beat Georgia, yes, but as far as betting is concerned a 2 point line sounds about right to me.

With FSU, I think the big factor is that we're playing in FSU's back yard. And we haven't had a quality road win over a good opponent for at least 5 years.

You guys have to remember that the function of the spread is to even the betting out. All that this is really saying is that the early money is going to Florida State. If we go into Jacksonville looking sharp I'd think that we'd be about a 3 point dog. If we drop an early one to say Arkansas and FSU looks good, we'll be looking to be about an 11 to 13 point dog.

I think its intersting to see where the money is going this soon, but really these lines are about as good as pre-season polls, fun to look at but really don't mean much.

There it is. Just gives you a feel of what the "experets" are seeing, but until game week, its just talk.

Do you people live in Athens to be gulping down that UGA Kool-aid like you are? I know, in the media it’s a popular opinion to think Stafford will be greatly improved this year. But logically, this is a team with a thin, young offensive line and a sophomore QB whose off-season conditioning program consisted of doing keg stands at Atlanta Motor Speedway. That team going on the road to play a team with an experienced, Junior QB, a core of senior WRs, and an emerging offensive line? I think I have to give the edge to the home team.

Don't let the point spreads bother you: They are not a measure of how much better Vegas thinks one team is. They are set at whatever number the oddsmakers percieve will get even money bet on both sides of the play in the casino...that's why the line moves up or down during the week as more money is bet on one side or the other.

That, and these lines will also move significantly as the season moves along.

I don't live in Clark County, Ga. But I see where you say you live close to Atlanta. Therefor you are probably aware how Stafford has progressed over the year. Took his beatings and by years end, he beat Auburn, GT and won the bowl. You are probably aware of his strong arm. As soon as he gets a good hold of the offense, he will be pretty good. And a gun-slinger at Qb who knows what he is doing is always dangerous. See Brodie Croyle.

And I believe that was Talladega where those picture of him doin what everyone else does there, not Atlanta.
