🏈 Sports Illustrated calls Tide's Kirkpatrick overrated, Vlachos underrated

Overrated: Dre Kirkpatrick, Alabama
It's hard to nitpick any of Alabama's five-star/All-SEC/BCS champion defenders, but the few teams that managed to bust some big plays on the Tide's defense the past two years often did so at the expense of the gambling Kirkpatrick. He's an incredible athlete and definitely cut down on the mistakes last season -- I'm just not sure I'd take him with a high first-round pick. I certainly wouldn't take him before Alabama teammates Courtney Upshaw, Dont'a Hightower or Mark Barron, which seems like a possibility.

That's what he said.

Oh I wouldn't either!

Unless my team needed a CORNERBACK and not a Linebacker or a safety. But don't let logic or reason confuse you there Stewie.

I know you said he cut down on mistakes last year, I agree. I'm trying to think if he got burned last year at all. 1st play of scrimmage for Florida - if I remember correctly that was Lester's breakdown. Maybe Dre' took a bad angle vs. Arkansas (their 1st TD). Those are the only two that come to mind, and I don't even know if he was involved in those.

He was burnt once this year for a TD. Yes, against UF.

I saw his numbers over the last two years. Sure, we saw him gamble. But, the times he was beaten for a TD? It didn't happen often.

If you think about Dre and coverage...

When you watched a game and saw him gamble, your response was more than likely, "Damn Dre!"

Versus...

You've seen some gambles in the past that were greeted by a "WTF?"

Huge difference.
