🏈 Special teams.....

After a lot of shots taken at our special teams play(somewhat deserved), I thought I would give them some props.

I first noticed it in the VT game. On the kickoff return where we stripped the return man, after the tackle was assured, they went after the ball. At first glance, it didn't seem like a big deal. But after the replay, you notice that we ripped the ball out. Still not a big deal. But then you see the returner getting up favoring the arm that he carried the ball in.

This weekend, you see CR make the tackle and steal the ball from the returner. Same thing, tackle guaranteed, then strip the ball.

All that said, these guys are getting some hellacious coaching. I think it is more of overly excited kids trying to make a play and losing their lane assignment. They will settle down at some point.

Also, man we have a hella strength and conditioning program.

There has to be a bit of a caveat here.

Cory had two great plays this past weekend, on the punt team.

The issue with our special teams is limited to kick coverage (as in kickoff's.) Our punting, punt and kick returns, and field goal unit have been solid this season.

True. I guess my main point was that they are getting the coaching, but I think the younger guys are just "trying to hard" for lack of a better term.

I think they all want to make that big hit, that big play and get noticed by the coaches, instead of sticking to their assignment and taking what comesto them.

I'd agree to that...I do see them running outside of their lanes and missing assignments. I assume it's cases where they are trying to "out-athlete" opponents.
