🏈 Something not getting enough attention

Locksley's play calling and the little wrinkles he's brought to the team isn't get enough love IMO. It's been incredible to me.

Started out the game with an empty backfield, 5-wide and Ole Miss looked absolutely confused. Then, he pulled out a new wrinkle with the two-back pistol formation (and I am all for not only getting Josh Jacobs on the field more but getting him on the field at the same time as another back). I can't wait to see what else he has up his sleeve.

Maybe I am misremembering it but I do not recall a two back pistol formation. I mean, it might have been at pistol depth but I do recall a max protect shotgun look, with the two backs on either side of Tua.

Impossible for anyone to complain or not give credit to the way the O is being ran... Everyone is producing, getting snaps, staying fresh, etc.

Really like how the RB's have been used. Those rotations are awesome. The WR's are all producing early this season, but it's also a continuance of what we saw against UGA and how Tua has a knack for spreading the ball around. And that was with Daboll.

The one thing we're seeing that is really cool, is Irv Smith jr making big catches down the field. Impressive to have him so involved along with all the other WR's.

Really comes down to having a phenom under center. Amazing how much more efficient every formation and usage of players becomes when there is a threat of every possible conclusion... Most importantly the ability to throw it over the top (not to mention the confidence to beat 3rd and long). Props to Locksley for keeping everyone involved though and so far they've all got to be happy... Makes for better practices and more guys excited and focused. Crazy to think how different this looks in such a short time

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought they used the two-back shotgun but also a pistol look with a back behind Tua and one to the right of him.

That sounds sort of like a wing T, except from a pistol set instead of from under center. That may have happened, I just recalled the play I mentioned. The way you first described it, sounded like a I formation from the pistol set.

I would check, but the game hasn't made it to Youtube yet, and the guy who normally condenses the game to "under 35 minutes" or so has said somewhere he doesn't have a copy to work from. I think the cutover to ESPN News messed up the tapers, but I'd at least like to see the partial recording.

I've gotten spoiled with Youtube. I always go back and watch that condensed game each week, and I've re-watched many older games that way.

RTR,

Tim

@It Takes Eleven, There were game replays up after the game against 'Ville. Both the full length and "in 24 minutes" videos were pulled due to copyright issues.

I've been meaning to check and see if there are new games up...just haven't made the time yet.

This is a good topic and on time. Two new coordinators and all these new assistants taking on new roles. Locksley has been the man. I mean how aggressive is he being with Tua? It boggles the mind. Jalen is actually progressing with his throws and has been throwing with good touch. Tupoi is making me feel a lot better after Ole Miss. I thought Pruitt was a more aggressive DC than Kirby when it came to pressure and I don't feel we've hit that plateau with our scheming, but the season is young and the big boys are coming. By the way, Georgia has one QB sack so far this year.

I wonder how everyone feels about Jeff Banks and special teams so far? I think last year's model we were covering kickoffs a little better. Someone please call Justin Thomas and see if he can coach up Skyler not DeLong.

It pretty much was an off-set I but in the pistol instead of under center. I'm going to rewatch the game tonight and make sure I wasn't seeing things, though. I wanna say that it was Najee at tailback and Jacobs at the fullback (next to Tua) spot.

I think Enos has done wonders for Jalen. I mean even Tua said that Jalen really never has had a true QB coach until now and you can def. see the difference already.

But yeah, Locksley has been unbelievably aggressive and all of the different formations he's using is going to make it next to impossible for defenses to really get a feel for what Alabama is doing from week to week. The first two drives really spell that out. Ole Miss wanted to play off and Tua dinks and dunks them to death along with the run gashing them. Second drive they play up a little bit with some man (and try to (badly) disguise their coverage) and Tua burns em for 70+.

Thanks Mr. Chase! Knew I wasn't going crazy yet lol I was about to rewatch the game today myself.

About the only thing I was disappointed in Saturday night was when the Network put us on ESPNews at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Lots of Bama folks on Finebaum today were pretty well ticked off, they didn't have all the stations on their cable. What bugged me about it was that earlier we were bumped to another ESPN station because a game ahead of us was going long and it too was a blowout. I think the system is to bump teams to another station that are starting, not finishing. I think Bama fans will remind the bigwigs at ESPN this week.

I didn't even know you could have ESPN without ESPNews. Fans will forget about it in 2 days.

Tiers, more tiers, and even more tiers yet. All designed to extract as much revenue from you on every occasion. Both of our cable companies in the area want to separate ESPN and ESPN 2 with ESPNews and ESPNU. You now inherit 50 more channels along the way you will never watch as you go up the price chain I settled that with IPTV years ago. But it would be irritating to be paying for ESPN and have them cut Bama off in the 4th and you're out of business. Bama fans don't care about no stinking score, they want to see their team and new guys perform as well. The teams they switched us for were Washington and Utah. Pretty sure that would just make any self-respecting Bama fan even more irritated.

I have Charter's " silver package ". Do I have espn news? HELL NO! And I wont be forgetting them ass holes switching the game over any time soon.

I didn't know this was a thing but I've had the biggest package Dish offers for years. But I mean, I think you'll live not seeing the third team offense run it up the gut for a few minutes in the fourth...
