⚾ 🥎 🥎🏆 The Women's College World Series: Texas beats TTU for first softball title

NIL won't come in when a guy that thinks he knows it all won't adjust. Teams never winning anything like Texas Tech that have a billionaire backing them will see steady flow until they win something, but Alabama folks won't pay up unless they know they have a guy that can get it done and the money isn't going down the toilet.

I agree, mostly. If Softball "fans" want a change, they can yell to the heavens about it and hope it comes from that direction. But if actual softball "boosters" want a change (and I'm talking about the hard core, Walk-Off Club types), they can stop giving to the program and discontinue other support like going to the games and events. Those are actions that IMO would move the needle in time. I also agree that Bama is behind the 8 ball on some now in regards to NIL, Texas Tech being one... a team that likely stole 1, if not 2, transfers from Bama last summer with $ that Bama couldn't (and probably wouldn't) match.

I genuinely do not know, but what is Murphy doing outside the lines to bring interest and money to support his recruiting needs? Guess I get tired of the finger being pointed at the boosters and would love to know what the staff is doing to gain funds.

As far as NIL/Collective fundraising? Speaking events and such. I'd just be guessing beyond that, but I'd imagine it's about like the other softball coaches... and I think camp money can be finagled into collective money even if it isn't completely legal (I think there's been some changes there). Personally, I haven't seen a lot of finger pointing at the boosters... not in terms of any blame anyway. I'm technically a UA booster, same as you. I haven't given the softball program a dime for NIL, and never will barring a massive windfall of money, and even then, I'd think long and hard about since I hate the system. I do not hold it against any UA boosters, though I'm certainly thankful for those that do.

We are up 1.5 runs per game this year over last year and up 1 run per game from 2023. Six less wins last year from 2023 and one more win this year from 2024. Two hitters over .300 in 2023, zero in 2024, and four in 2024, so hitting did appear better in that simple calculation, but it did not translate to any more wins of note.

To see a big reason why, look at the pitching from last year... ERA was up 1.00. It was a see-saw-like rise and dip.

Yeah, I donate to Yea Alabama right now and won't give anymore until I see a project or some other larger funding to know we have a goal or specific point. No clue where my money goes right now, and that's ok to an extent, but hoping they can find a way to fix the game and make it more in line with what most felt it was created for instead of highest bidder and to get official visits (doubt we do that but it was brought up that it is happening at places).

LOL... Death, taxes, and Courtney Diefel's Razorbacks getting gutted in the Regional rounds... At least this time they made it to the Supers... She had the #4 overall seed and a cyborg with a bat on her team and still couldn't get it done. That's now 8 seasons in a row for her and Arky and they still can't get to OKC.

Contrast that with Coach Trachsel at Ole Miss. On the chopping block 2 years in a row. She was told she had to fire all her staff last year it was so bad. She makes 3 pretty good hires, pulls in a couple transfers, has a really good freshman class come in, and gets hot at the right time. Boom she is in the WCWS. Crazy to me.

Bama’s recruiting issues are very interesting to me. As a dad of a kid in the 2026 class (she is committed to another school) I have had a front row seat in seeing how the different schools go about their recruiting. Murph missed on so many kids in the 2026 (some due to NIL, some due to other factors beyond his control) that I was quite worried for the program. He still attracts the absolute best to camps and most of the top talent is still very interested in Alabama but he is missing on closing the deals a bit right now. Another thing that worries me is he recruits big time on high school stats. No one really cares about how you do in high school ball because it simply doesn’t translate to the next level. Almost all coaches recruit from the travel circuit (which of course he does as well) but he puts way more emphasis on high school ball than most. Maybe that’s an old school thing he needs to change his approach on. Either way, with the facility that we have and the number of fans we attract to games every year, Alabama will be fine for a while.

Always appreciate your perspective.

And on Ole Miss, you’re right. She wiggled off the hook for a couple of reasons if I’m remembering right. I had forgotten by the time the season began, but early on this season when I was watching an OM game they showed Earleywine, and it reminded me she brought in some new blood. I recall his tenure at Missouri… seemed like a good coach but got under the skin of some at times. I knew he and Murphy had a couple of chilly moments back then.

The five from the SEC is up two since last season. The Big 12 is down to one from three last year. (No guesses there, folks.)

No one made if from the B1G last season, two came from the PAC. This season no one came out of the PAC; two from the B1G. (No guesses here, folks.)

What PAC? What B1G? The two( Oregon and UCLA) from the B1G this year were in the PAC last year.
