⚾ 🥎 🥎- 2026 SEC Softball Standings: UA moves into tie with OU for 1st in the SEC race, through Wk 6 (of 8.)

"Mid-point" is both true and false.

For context, Bama is playing #1 Texas this weekend. It'll be the fourth, of eight, SEC series this year. UK, LSU, UT, Ole Miss, and Florida have already played four series.

OFFICIALLY, come Easter morning, it'll be the mid-point for everyone.

FWIW, Bama has TX, AU, UK, UT, and then close out the regular season with UofSC.

Not trying to jinx things, or even downplay the competition coming up, because every SEC team is capable of putting together a good weekend and winning a series, but...

Alabama has 4 conference weekend matchups left in the regular season. @ auburn, Kentucky, @ Tennessee, and South Carolina. 3 of the 4, are bottom of the conference teams. Obviously, the Vols are really good and that'll be a marquee series in Knoxville. But as of today, I kinda like that UA pitching vs. Vol hitting matchup.

Anyway, all that to say... Bama needs to handle their business, but they are in a good spot right now schedule wise.

Also, they are #1 in the RPI.

I looked this up last week because I was curious to see what the improvement was over last year... I just updated the numbers with this past weekend's results at auburn. In terms of the pitching, here are the number of games that UA has either held an opposing team scoreless during the season, or to just 1 run...

2026
0 runs- 17
1 run- 12
Total- 29 (with games left to play)

2025
0 runs- 6
1 run- 9
Total- 15

You can see how last season was an anomaly when you keep digging (a total of 29 games in '23 [Montana's last season] and 28 games in '24 [when Beaver was the staff ace]). And for the pitching to be that far off UA's average and the hitting to be a poor as it was, it was actually a pretty good coaching job for Murphy to get Bama into the Super's... which some will recall put UA up against Oklahoma at their place.

Some other pitching stat comparisons to last season just for fun... keep in mind, there are games yet to be played...

This regular season is shaping up to be ... tight?

OU is hosting UGA this upcoming weekend: 8th in the conference, 13th in the nation. The series to watch is A&M who is currently in third (SEC.) A&M and OU meet in the last series of the regular season.

I expect A&M to have somewhat of an easy go this weekend. They are on the road against UofSC. However, the Gamecocks have only won five games in conference this season. They aren't very good. It's that last weekend ...

UF is lurking at #4. They won't jump Bama.

Bama...against SEC #5 in Knoxville this weekend. The Tide closes out the regular season against UofSC.

In my view UT seems like a bit of an outlier here. If they can grab two against Bama, then do the same against Mizzou...good chance they can jump into the top four with the two day bye in the tournament.

Much to my chagrin, I have a gut feeling we'll be rooting for A&M in two weeks.

Now that I'm thinking about this ...

I'm thinking Okie State is a program to keep an eye on right now. Weird season. The beat UGA and A&M early on while losing to LSU. They took two against Arizona this past weekend after beating OU in the mid week game. They are playing Texas Wednesday night on ESPN2.

I say that to also say this. It looks like someone is putting money into the women's sports in Stillwater. My gut says they've been watching what's been happening in Lubbock.

If you look at their basketball roster for the women...it's going to be one of the most expensive next season.
