🏈 SO, you're the [offensive] coordinator at say, Ole Miss. How are you prepping for the Bama game?"

@TerryP I didn't want to hijack your thread, hence the new thread. I was interested in brethren perspective on the other side of the ball too, so I hope you'll excuse me plagiarizing, with slight modification, your thread title.

With that said, you're the Ole Siss OC, how do you plan for Alabama.

Looking at the Florida game, our defense held Florida to 93 yds passing and 107 yds rushing. You have film of Alabama's defensive performance's in the first three games. What do you take away from those performances and how do you ready your offence to operate effectively against what you have seen.

Regarding the Florida game: the stats suggest a good day by the Alabama defense. Focusing on the passing yards and the secondary, an area where Alabama has been criticized all year (and then some), do the stats indicate improved performance by our DBs or an abysmal game by Driskel?

Treadwell is their most dangerous weapon on offense. he is big and strong and has great hands. I would try to get him in matchups against small corners to take advantage of that. Try the short passing game, keep Wallace out of situations where he has to throw down the field, unless there is a good matchup with Treadwell. Stay pretty conservative on offense, give the D a chance to win the game.

Offensively, keep it close to the vest like @psychojoe suggests. Realize that punting isn't bad and that hopefully your D can force a turnover to win it. To be honest, look at Coach Stallings' teams and that is your recipe. Be sound in the kicking game, play tough as hell defense, and don't screw up on offense.

I think if I was the OC at Ole Miss, I would run the HUNH from start to finish. I'd also have the first 15 plays scripted so everyone know what they are doing. Short, quick hitting passes with a few runs thrown in is how I would attack the Bama defense.

Do you attempt to "exploit" Alabama's secondary or do you respect it based on your film study of their season this far into the scheduled, with emphasis on the Florida game?

Ole miss matches up very well against Alabama. Ole miss does what Florida tries to do.... But they do it pretty well. Driskel had a terrible game which is not unusual to him. If Wallace has a pretty good day, ole miss competes well with Alabama and will have a chance to win. My only question is about ole miss run game. Haven't watched them much this year. If they can run the ball pretty well, they have a good chance in this game.

Ole Miss is not one to rely on power running. Their backs tend to be the small and fast variety who run on the edge, or maybe in the middle on misdirection. Our front 7 much better than their OL IMO. Their QB is their power running game. Were I them I would not want to be throwing the ball down the field much for two reasons. First, he is not that accurate on the deeper throws, and second I don't think they can protect him. So dinks and dumps in the passing game, unless they get a match up on Treadwell that they like. Run a little, using situational approaches. Run on passing downs. But above all, don't turn the ball over. A low scoring game featuring kicking and defense is their best chance to win IMO.

i agree. i'm not terribly impressed with wallace as far as accuracy goes... especially on longer routes. Florida runs this type scheme at the level of a 3/10.... Ole miss maybe a 7/10.

I thought we were supposed to insert our own offensive expletive in front of coordinator. Man, I'm so confused...
Sorry for the confusion, Chief. I was trying to expand upon TerryP's original post on how we would plan for Alabama from the perspective of the Miss State DC. I was curious to know the gang's views on the Miss State OC perspective, given the criticism our secondary has received. I was also trying to be witty by using TerryP's thread title. I meant to place the title in quotes, but I forgot the quotes at the beginning. The brackets around "offensive" were meant to show that I had added that word. I often fail when attempting witty.

In terms of passing yards per game, they are currently #8 with an average of 364.7 / game. I would rely on that strength, plus our young secondary, to put up points.

They will need to get the ball out and protect the QB, because our D-line will overpower them. Limit turnovers, too. Oh, and play fast / up tempo.
