šŸˆ SO, you're the defensive coordinator at say, Ole Miss. How are you prepping for the Bama game?

I'm asking that while circling around another point/thought.

IF you were that DC, you've got four games of film to study. Those games include one where a lot of quick outs were thrown, another when there were none. One game featuring some big gains on offense, another that didn't, but both had practically the same number of explosive plays. (Difference of two between Southern Miss and Florida.)

If you were asked, as that defensive coordinator, what's the identity of the Alabama offense in 2014, how do you answer that question?

Now, as a fan, how do you answer that question?

I suggested to @planomateo a few weeks ago that a lot of the fan anxiety came from those fans not having a sense of their football identity with this team. The only word I have is multiple.

One thing I find interesting this morning...we're considered a 3-4 defense but spend 75% of the time in nickel. We're considering a Pro-Style attack and how many different formations are we seeing? Start counting them in your head for a minute...

i dedicate a safety to Cooper and my fastest LB to Blake Sims. Play 3-4 or Nickel giving up some run yards in hopes of stiffening in the red zone. Inside the Red Zone rush 1-2 more guys and risk a bit. I think Bo is an ok guy to practice against getting ready for Blake Sims. Just pretend that his passes are faster and more accurate and that he can run a lot better and then he's just like Blake. :hurray:

Not to hijack my own thread...but, I'd kill ya with wheel routes and running backs...

Taking the whole team into consideration, I would bracket Coop, man up on everybody else, and send everybody else crashing into the line every play. I would hope that my offense could score enough on Bama's apparently still questionable secondary to keep it close. But we all know that we would burn em like cheap steak if the did that.

Hope for a strain of ebola to hit the UA football facility! As a DC, this offense causes more problems than one like A&M, Barn, or even Baylor. If you bracket Coop with over the top help, you are risking the seams. Drop a safety down to help run support and that area get exposed even more. Lock up in man and Kiffin is going to run crossing routes and rub routes all day. Safest way, play a straight 3-4 or 4-3 with zone concepts and just keep everything in front. You start getting exotic with blitzes and Kiffin is going to cut you a new arse with these weapons.

There are so many ways Alabama can produce yards it's a matter of trying to shut down the greater of several evils, and then hoping to score enough points to hang. Now, what that greater of several evils is is up in the air. Before the Florida game I would have planned to stuff the box and then bring my DB's in to shut down the short passing routes Sims has been hanging his hat on. Now it's all up in the air. I'm glad I'm not the Ole Siss DC, I can tell you that.

I would come with a lot of stunts and blitzes, hoping to create enough negative plays to make up for the home runs Bama would hit. Nkemdeche is the factor they have that would cause us a problem. Maybe line him up in different places to create blocking matchups that they like. This is easily the best defense we have seen so far, probably the best we will face this year.
