Urban Meyer's will to win burns with such competitive fire that he won't allow anyone to stand in his way on the recruiting trail.
Including, evidently, his former school and a former assistant coach.

Outkick the Coverage
has learned from sources in New York that Meyer and Ohio State turned in Florida assistant coach Brian White for an alleged improper "bump" violation related to the recruitment of Curtis Samuel, a running back/defensive back from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Investigations into Ohio State's complaint this spring uncovered no wrongdoing, the sources said, but Samuel subsequently revealed Florida no longer is in his top five schools — while OSU is.

Meyer's willingness to turn in a former coach — one he hired — as well as the program he led for six seasons is unheard of in college athletics. Indeed, no one Outkick the Coverage talked with could recall a former coach turning in his former program and a former assistant coach.

A bump violation — a secondary NCAA offense — prohibits contact between coaches and players during non-contact periods of the recruiting calendar. An email to Ohio State seeking comment was not immediately returned Tuesday night.

Remember last fall when we were watching Notre Dame moving up the polls and began to realize there existed a chance we'd face them in the post season? I know with the majority here that thought was welcomed.

Now, going into the fall we're seeing the possibility of meeting Meyer again. And, once again, it's a match-up that's welcomed!

But, after reading this today, for the pure entertainment value I'm becoming inclined to want to see UF and OSU meet in the post-season.

Poked around on some Buckeye sites. They all seem to think that Urban is being singled out right now about this and that he is catching alot of flak for the Aaron Hernandez situation. I would beg to differ, nobody has dug into how Urban handled things in Florida yet...you can bet its coming and when it does, he'll suddenly have heart issues again.

Not once, but twice.

Running off at the typewriter. …

How low can Urban Meyer go?

So low that he would turn in the Florida Gators – his former team and the program he still claims to love – for a ticky-tack secondary recruiting violation that never even occurred.

According to sources at UF, Meyer tattled to the Big Ten and the NCAA, claiming UF assistant coach Brian White committed a secondary "bump" violation (making accidental contact with a recruit during a non-contact period) regarding Curtis Samuel -- a stud running back from Erasmus Hall High in New York City. Samuel, who was also being recruited at Ohio State, then dropped UF from consideration.

Turns out the NCAA looked into the allegation, and it turned out to be unfounded. Meyer, in full damage control, then told Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun that it was "absolutely untrue" that he turned in Florida. An Ohio State spokesperson then told the Columbus Dispatch that it wasn't Meyer, but someone else in the OSU athletic department who turned in the Gators.

Whatever.

Does Meyer take us all for a bunch of fools?

According to UF insiders, this is the second time Meyer has tattled on the Gators, and both times the nit-picking allegations turned out to be untrue. Seriously, does Meyer really expect us to believe that someone in the Ohio State athletic department would turn in Meyer's former school without Meyer's knowledge and permission? Does he really expect us to believe that an OSU underling would turn in White – an assistant coach Meyer hired at UF -- without Meyer's endorsement?

Puh-leeze.

The saddest part of all is that UF athletic director Jeremy Foley – a purported friend of Meyer's – gave Meyer a $1 million going-away bonus when Meyer resigned from UF to supposedly spend more time with his family. Little did Foley know that Meyer would be coaching at Ohio State a few months later.

Now, Meyer doesn't even have the common courtesy to call Foley or Gator coach Will Muschamp when he thinks one of UF's assistant coaches might be committing a some ticky-tack violation.

Then again, why should we be surprised?

Urban Meyer, after all, is the most disingenuous coach in all of college football.

He claims he still loves the University of Florida and will always be a Gator, but he sure does have a strange way of showing it.
