🏈 So its GAME WEEK! To pass the time decided to watch Fball Flick!

The Longest Yard (original) was great, no doubt. To be honest though (and I probably shouldn't admit this) I always liked Varsity Blues. Ironic, considering I never liked Dawson's Creek or any of the actors/actresses in that series.

John Voight is a total di** as a coach. He plays the bad guy very well.

James Van Der Beek was pretty good in the movie.

And Amy Smart is always nice to look at.

For anyone who has not seen the movie; it's a rather over the top look at Texas high school football. Of course the general themes of the movie are pretty accurate, but it's the fanaticism that is portrayed that makes the film what it is.

Example: Many of us grew up playing HS football in a small town where the town supports the team and that is all there really is for many. You play ball, then work at the local feed mill, and your life is complete. And the people in town think your life is complete.

In the movie Van Der Beek receives an academic schollie offer from Brown University. We're talking BROWN here. This isn't Beville State or Stillman, right? All his father can think about (after having been shown the letter and totally dismissing it) is the game plan for Friday night's game, and whether or not his son is gonna make daddy proud.

It's a movie that takes a poignant look at how we raise our kids in big time high school football culture, and how that culture takes over small town USA.

I remember liking "Friday Night Lights" when I saw it as a teenager. I haven't seen it recently.

"The Replacements" is pretty good. "Jerrry Maguire" is fun. "Waterboy" is a guilty pleasure.

I'd have to settle on "Air Bud 2: Golden Receiver."

The original "Longest Yard" was the best. I would have to say "Neccessary Roughness" with Scott Bakula and Sinbad was pretty good to watch as well. Varsity Blues would also be in the top for me.
