Anybody watch the ESPN Roll Tide/War Eagle special last night?

I thought it was okay. Not quite as good as I expected, but it was worth watching. They spent a little to much time on Updyke, but other than that, no real complaints from me.

I didn't care for it at all. They focused on the extreme fringe of primarily the Alabama fan base. Way too much of Phyllis screaming and his other local yocals that call into the Finebaum program. Too much Finebaum. Entirely too much Updyke. Too much time spent on tree poisoning which most Alabama fans thought was ridiculous to begin with. Too much time emphasizing scandals that have plagued both schools and top it off with the psycho piano player and his crappy rendition of Sweet Home Alabama.

Other than that, it was just great. :lance:

only watched 30 mins of it so far, seems more a Finebaum advertisement than a true depiction on the rivalry.

they dropped the ball on this in my opinion.

A buddy of mine was telling me about it. All he could remember was that they interviewed Updyke, spent some time with Gene Jelks, and showed the Punt, Bama, Punt clip. I told him it sounded like a Bama hit piece. I'll try to catch it and judge for myself.

Wanted to choke the living crap out of Scam and that arrogant smug grin after the Kenny Rogers tape was played. Thought Takeo Spikes was a tool!! Too much Finebaum and his callers, along with Updyke. I was ok with Barkley and Jackson comments. I thought some were even humorous.

Yeah I dont see where most of u r coming from, absolutely loved it. They did focus on the "fringe" fans alot but thats part of the reason this rivalry is as intense as it is, the crazies. They didnt spend the entire documentary on it and it was their focus to show the great history of the rivalry while focusing mainly on the crazy finishes to the last two Iron Bowls. They did a great job of showing what this rivalry is about and regardless of whether you like it or not (and I damn sure dont like it) Harvey Updyke has become a part of this whole story. A big part.

Best part was hearing Mark Ingram's hate for Auburn lol (he was really excited in that documentary) and Shaun Alexander's story about the preacher punching an Auburn fan.

You would think your friend (im assuming a Bama fan) would have remembered more about the run in the mud, Shaun Alexander, the focus put on the 2009 season and the 2009 game, the Tornado relief, and the dominance of Bear Bryant rather than the negative.

This is my biggest problem with a ton of the fans I've heard talk about it, so many Bama fans did nothing but focus on the bad for Alabama (punt bama punt, the comeback last year, Updyke, Jelks) and Auburn fans did nothing but whine about the bad for Auburn (the '09 comeback, the $cam payment, the 40 years of Bama beating their asses, the "little brother/sister" comments, etc.). Bama fans wanted it to be a "Roll Tide" documentary and Barners wanted it to be "War Buzzard" documentary. I figured this would happen.

What was it they were saying about auburn coaches/players coming to Tuscaloosa to help with the tornado cleanup? Did I miss something? Cause that is what they said or implied isn't it? The reason I'm wondering, I'm 99.9% sure those dudes didn't help with any cleanup in Tuscaloosa. But, I was without power for a couple days so maybe I missed it.

Glad you enjoyed it Birdman and that is your opinion. My opinion was that it was a pile of dung. Couldn't care less if it was more pro-Bama or not as I don't need my strokes from some second rate documentary. The bottom line is, it reflected poorly on both fan bases overall and no Porter, Chizik and his players went to the Birmingham area for cleanup which was needed there too but at least they got due credit for pitching in. Alabama's fans that supported the saving of those damn Oak trees got no mention or credit, just Harvey Updyke. AU fans accurately said he would become the "face of Alabama football". This documentary did nothing to prove them wrong.

Yeah I know that and they showed video of it. Just seemed a bit odd, and somewhat suggested, that they did so in Tuscaloosa. Which either way makes no difference to me, but why imply it? Then again, I was half paying attention at that point so maybe I missed something.
