With the possibility of snow in the forecast for much of Alabama this Thurs afternoon and Night, is anyone else getting worried that it might ruin some plans? I like snow and usually i'm all for it, but i really hope something happens and it doesn't snow. Imagine if for some freak reason it snows a good bit and your power gets cut off right before or during the game.

GO AWAY SNOW!

When I first moved to Birmingham in 1991, I made fun of Southerners dealing with the snow. Then the Blizzard of 1993 came along. My wife called me that afternoon and told me to stop by the Western and buy a couple of days worth of groceries. I laughed and came home with two fire logs and a bottle of scotch.

After five days with no heat and no water, I wasn't laughing anymore.

Blizzard of '93 was one of my earliest memories. We have a cabin on the Hiwassee River and that weekend we were going up with my grandmother, aunt, two cousins, along with my family (Mom, Dad, sister, twin brother, and me, plus a dog). We got snowed in. Our fireplace got blocked by snow and we got smoked outta the top level of the cabin. Luckily, we had a woodburning stove that we cooked soup and chili on, along with living off snowcream. My parents and the neighbors had to chainsaw through seventy five pine trees to clear the road so we could leave. We only had one care that could handle the snow and all had to pack in there to make it back to Chattanooga. I remember walking on top of the icy snow and then suddenly hitting a soft spot and having the snow reach above my head. My parents always tell me stories about. They said it was fun at first then it started to get worried when we started getting low on food and other supplies. We still got pictures and stuff, along with a shirt from news channels that say "I survived the blizzard of '93!"

Only you.

As bad as I would not like it I'd have to either watch on my phone, or listen to it in one of my vehicles, they both have XM and I'm sure they'd be broadcasting it. Let's just hope, something like this doesn't happen.

One thing to remember, if they call for snow, head to the store right then and grab milk and bread!

I want to know if you were still a married man after '93? :wife:

The first official "the sky is falling" thread. My gosh, it doesn't take but a couple of winters in the south to realize that these snow predictions are nothing more than some no-life-having forecasters selling wolf tickets. That's it! Just relax.

Here in Ga. the nervousness has hit!!! I had to run in the grocery store this morning and there wasn't a loaf of bread to be found! I didn't look at the milk section, but I would assume it was deserted as well. To hell with milk and bread! I will be stocking up on brew!

I'm getting worried. Not about the coming of armageddon (snow), but of the fact that armageddon is coming on, of all freakin days, January 7th! Everybody at work is already driving the management nuts about "are we going to have to be at work Friday, can we just go ahead and be on the safe side and call it an inclement weather day Friday, because it's supposed to be 8-10 inches of accumulation". Some alarmists are already hitting the gorcery stores! I mean, there will be plenty of time between now and spring for another armageddon/snow, why now? Why? 17 years since the last time we were in the nation title game, and we get this!
