šŸ’¬ Small academic update from UA Admissions--makes me proud to see the quality of the student base continue to be top notch.

Well, USC isn't in the nicest of areas. UCLA is, but the demographics may surprise some.

They like football out there, but in a different way.
She is family from what we'd call "administrative positions within the athletic department." I couldn't venture to guess how long the father has been there...stretching two plus decades I'm guessing--feel pretty good about the guess too.

The daughter is making her choice of school based on SEC football. It's just...cool story, ya know? Told me it's down to UGA and Bama. UGA put on a heck of an impression. She made mention of how her daughter liked the campus and I could resist but tell her wait until you see how trashed it is on gameday. (I'm still disgusted about the way they are.) UF was "trash." Auburn was "Auburn." Ole Miss she described as weird...want to say cultish but I'll have to pull up the email to check.

There's some athleticism there but I don't know how far she's thinking of pursuing it in college.

Someone from out of town like that will also want to think about transit. Georgia is absolutely awful with parking. Parking a ways out and having to get on the bus will be a sure thing, and passes are VERY expensive. At Alabama there is still a lot less parking than desired, but everything is relatively close. A lot ride the buses in between classes, but there was always a parking spot in decent vicinity to my classes.

Also, housing. Georgia has decent dorm housing, but once you're out of your Freshman year it's a ton of old homes and run down typical college looking houses you hear about from your parents. Alabama has way more upscale housing than most schools. The tornado and capitalizing off the football team's success has created a lot more of an updated housing variety. All three of my sisters lived in Athens while going to school there and I know it cost an arm and a leg for the apartments up there, which most likely is the case at any school. i bought my house in Forest Lake while I went to Alabama, and it was WAY cheaper than what my sisters were paying a month. Probably around a $700-800 difference in total.
