Alabama News --

Alabama softball punched its 12th-straight ticket to the NCAA Super Regional Round with an emphatic 8-0 shutout win over Cal in Sunday's NCAA Regional final at Rhoads Stadium.

Alabama (49-12) has now won 12-straight NCAA Regional titles and is the only team in the country to play in all 12 NCAA Super Regional rounds since its inception in 2005. As the No. 6 national seed, the Crimson Tide will host its ninth Super Regional round, welcoming Washington to Tuscaloosa next weekend. Game dates and times are yet to be announced.

The Crimson Tide jumped on Cal (33-24-1) early and never looked back, scoring three runs in both the first and second innings before adding a pair of insurance runs in the sixth and seventh. Alabama tallied 15 hits, with all nine spots in the lineup contributing at least one. Leona Lafaele drove in four of the team's eight runs, smashing a two-run homer in the first inning and adding a sacrifice fly and RBI single later in the game. Five other Tide players notched multi-hit performances, including a 2-3 day with two runs scored by Demi Turnerin her first start since her injury on March 12.

Starting pitcher Alexis Osorio (17-6) posted her second win of the weekend, throwing a total of 16.2 shutout innings in three appearances with 28 strikeouts at the Regional round. The Bears only had five runners on base in the loss, only reaching scoring position twice. Starter Nisa Ontiveros (18-8), who had thrown every inning this weekend for Cal, exited with just one out in the top of the first after allowing three runs as Stephanie Trzcinski threw the remaining 6.2 innings in the loss.

Haylie McCleney led off the game with a double and, after moving to third on a groundout, came home on a two-run home run by Lafaele as the Tide pulled ahead 2-0. Peyton Grantham followed suit in the next at-bat with a solo home run to make it 3-0. With the bases loaded in the top of the second, Chandler Dare dropped a single into center field, scoring two and moving to second on the throw to make it a 5-0 game with two in scoring position and one out. A long fly ball by Lafaele allowed McCleney to tag up and score from third on the sacrifice fly as it was now a six-run game.

Lafaele added another run in the top of the sixth with an RBI single through the left side. With Turner at first and two out in the top of the seventh, a pinch-hit single by Caroline Hardy moved her to third and an errant throw on the play allowed Turner to score and stretch the lead to 8-0. With two outs and a runner on first in the bottom of the seventh, Madi Mooreentered to secure the final out of the seventh, with a groundout to second capping the 8-0 win.

Next weekend, Alabama welcomes Washington (39-13) to Tuscaloosa for the NCAA Super Regional round. Game dates and times have yet to be announced.
