šŸ“” Should a high school team be banned from postseason play when fans get involved on the court during a fight?

Absolutely......fans are an extension of program....
If Its on the court....field of play (FOP)...
Its got to be established...only ones on field of play is players...
Period.....( I know some rush FOP after big win...upset win...to celebrate...)
So if fans come on FOP then they know they are going to punish their program
Establish the rule by enforcement

This is a toughie. Hard to punish an entire program for the actions of one or two players and a dumbass fan base. BUT, I also see it as trying to make a point that this kind of action will not be tolerated. To be completely honest, the "fans" have zero to lose, they don't truly give a shit about the team or ten years later saying their school won a state championship at the high school level. They are only there to be seen and loiter for the most part. Suspend the players involved and if it happens again, then you disqualify the team would be my course of action.

Dumbest shit I've ever heard.

So should Alabama not be allowed in the college football playoffs when dumbass Udpdyke killed the trees?

Fans are not an extension of the program in any way, shape, or form. The program isn't responsible for some random ass people who likes a sports team.

Now the administration who's supposed to be overseeing the actual event, that needs to be addressed. The team itself has nothing to do with that.

As a high school principal, I'd like to throw out my two cents.

  1. No, the team should not be banned from the playoffs because fans are acting like idiots.
  2. Some conferences(regions in Alabama) have rules that if you are thrown out of a game, you are fined and or removed from the school property for up to a year. The county next to ours has a $150 fine if you are tossed from a game.
  3. The AD and administration cannot control every facet of fan behavior. I am on the go from the time teams start arriving to teams pulling off the parking lot trying to make sure people are acting like they should. That means I roam the halls from the gym to the restrooms, concession area, lobby and parking lot. Rarely, do I get to sit down and watch more than a few minutes of a game, just part of the job.
  4. We have two deputies on duty at all games. We some bozo starts to get out of hand, we escort them out of the stadium or out of the gym all the way to their car.
  5. If you remove one or two during the course of the year, most major problems take care of themselves because they know you will not put up with crap.

This is not all but my rant is over for now.

I guess @Tidestalker i am just dumb....( of course i knew AUs trees arent on a playing surface...which was the subject matter)....

Fans are an extension....boosters get programs in trouble all the time,...remember Albert Means....and many others...Along with boosters being punished...so were the school athletic program....remember the 90s...the bowl ban.?... SEC fines programs when fans rush the field? Who pays fine? The school!

How do you stop a behavioral problem.....ask SMU....like dealing with a snake...you cut its head off...

If your fans are creating problem at events...you stop the event....

@alabama mike ...all in respect to your post...thats just my take on a problem....

School gets fined when fans rush the field. Someone thinks they are an extension. And no, a high school or school district cannot afford the security to stop crap like this.

If you have ever been to a basketball game in Memphis....at any level.....you would better understand. Thugs all.....in the stands, on the court, on the bench, at the concession stand, coming into the gym, etc!

50+ you know I love you... I was def being a little harsh and facisious.

My point is teams cannot control fans. That’s a fact.

Admin has SOME control. I see where AM is coming from especially at the HIgh school level that there is only so much they can do.

But they can kick people out, can stop a game and/or re schedule. They have some control... and when I say punish the admin I don’t mean base salary financially... extra training, discipline policies, not allowing them to work games anymore (our district they get paid extra), etc.

At the college level it’s absolutely on the athletic department, not the team. The fines are deserved and they can easily hire more security and/or put up barriers to stop them. There’s only one court/field to enter and leave... ticket the idiots without game passes when they finally leave. A $500 fine would make some drunk idiots think twice.

If there is a history of this kind of behavior with the schools and their fans, then sometimes you have to enforce a harsh penalty to get their attention. As a former coach, I have coached in an empty gym before because of a fight and I have helped deputies escort a few characters out before it became an issue. I know it costs ejected players/schools $300-500 for their actions. Costs a coach as well.
