šŸˆ "She shed a few tears at the beginning of the game." A ref, crying before calling a game just seems off.

It just sounded so weird to me hearing them brag about the first female officiating a NFL game, "entering a mans world" as they liked to say. Then, in all of that hoopla, they wanted to feminize her immediately?

I just didn't know how to take that. You know I thought about "no crying in baseball." And now we're talking about how empowering it is to be calling the game while crying about the whole experience?

Propaganda thy name is the National Football League.

And by the way, how long does it normally take for an official to make it to the NFL? She did it in six?

Agree. Gag... And I’m all for diversity, my company is very diverse and it’s come naturally. I have close friends of many nationalities and races. But the effort the NFL made to be inclusive and diverse last night in aspects outside of the football action itself, geez. Why can’t one person sing the anthem for instance? 2 totally unrelated folks singing it. That’s not normal. They probably had not even met each other before that. And to hear Biden (on radio broadcast at halftime while I was driving) go on and on about how we need more African American coaches. I just can’t see past the fact that it’s ok to hire purely the best talent to play the game, but folks want all other positions to be hired based on other characteristics. It’s ok to do X in this part of the organization because we have to win, but in this part we must to Y so that we show we are giving everyone a chance. It’s just flawed in my eyes.

The talk in this thread is why I was very hesitant to watch the game. I have not watched the first nfl game all year. I did turn it on after the game started, turned it off at halftime and turned it back on in the 2nd half. Of course it went right back off after the game. I am not interested in political games. I was very close to not watching at all. I am just tired of it all. If you are qualified you get the job period. Anything different than that is wrong in my view and anyone that deserves it probably would say the same thing regardless of race or gender.

Grew up in male sports environment....
I have no problem with her officiating......didnt do anything to draw attention to herself....thats good officiating ( sec basketball officials need to learn that)...

but ... changed name of officiating position...so its gender neutral....lol
Thats a bit much...

But...the world as it revolves....

i notice Greg McElroy was on CF Live theother day...he still referred to Washington as Redskins... loved it......

I read an article last fall about a guy who had been calling games in the NFL for 12 or 13 years. His career path started in pee-wee, jumped to Jr High and high school, then college before going overseas for a few years. He got the call from the NFL when he was working for the European NFL league. If he spent one year at each place he's around six or seven years. However, in the interview he said the NFL watched him for several years before calling.

Glad I was too busy making pizza on the Egg and getting my daughter started with her little candle making company to hear most of this crap. I do love Romo and Nantz though. I like them a lot, so later in the game I enjoyed sitting down and listening to them. Romo is like one of us in there and I love it. Jim Nantz is just a gentleman, and I really like that as well.

Folks, with all of this being said about the anthem, the female official ( I have ZERO issues here outside of the media making it a huge deal), and the Halftime shows just getting more and more like a Vegas act, human trafficking being known to peak in Super Bowl cities during that weekend, it's showing that football is not the main focus anymore. It's more of an opportunity to program as many viewers as they can to fit the mold they want for society. All this materialistic bullcrap, to get your money, and to keep you down, to forget your morals, and change your standards. To be honest, this is the first time I did not bet on the Super Bowl in a LONG time, because after I felt a lot of games are rigged, former players agreeing with that, it just isn't worth being involved in. That being said I did buy $50 in squares out my golf club just to be involved with the guys, and I actually hit the first quarter. Other than that I liked seeing Brady win, but my attention was not on the game for 3/4 of it. The game is just losing its luster for me, and that was not an easy thing I ever thought would happen to me. College football isn't far behind, because outside of Alabama I've gotten to where there is very little "must see" games for me.

Sorry to be Debbie Downer here, but just had to let that out.

Caught it on the TV and then listened about the ā€œfirst female coach in the NFLā€ and how ā€œlittle girls were inspired to be like them!ā€ Uh, sorry!! I teach 450+ young kids with more than half being girls. Not one time have I EVER heard one say, ā€œI’m not going to play, I’m going to coach or referee!!ā€

I sat in front of my firepit. It was a quiet, clear night, no wind, with the cold creeping in pretty quickly. I got an email from Academy saying Tampa Bay had won.

By the way, the Kirklands brand of IPA isn't too bad. With many brands hitting $10-12 a six pack, at $19 a case, I just had to try it. It has a Goose Island IPA vibe, no significant bite at the finish.

RTR,

Tim

Once on that plateau....life moves more smoothly

I have no problems with a female becoming an NFL referee. I do have a problem with it being promoted to show how inclusive the NFL is (and not to promote how she is one of the best in the league at her position).

I'm sure she was emotional to know that she reached this level. If there were any other first-time Super Bowl referees I'm sure they were a little emotional as well. If any of you were involved in sports, I'm sure it was emotional for you the first time you dressed for a varsity game, were named a starter, won a big game, etc. I know the first time I dressed for an Alabama game I was pretty emotional (no tears, but I did reflect back on the work I put in to make it to that point).

Back in the '80 during one of Washington SB win. One of the Defensive guy was telling the papers you can rename the Skin anything you want! It will still be called the Redskins!

See we are all systemic racists. All the evidence is here in this thread :( we should all be apologizing for being us. We obviously need to be put in concentration camps and be reprogrammed smh...
