We all know the saying...
Fool me once, shame on you
Fool me twice, shame on me

I bought an espresso machine off of Amazon early this week. The unit I got was used. I took picture as evidence, just in case. I initiated a replacement order, and they sent out another one. It arrived today. This was as brand new unit. I unboxed it and followed the first-time startup instructions to the letter. Nothing. The pump makes a normal sounds, but not water comes out. There's a wand for frothing milk/cream and then the portafilter where the water comes out to make espresso. You're supposed to turn the dial to the wand and let the pump fill with water and air then water should come out of the wand. The initial run is just to purge the air from the machine. After that, you should place a cup under the portafilter then select either the 1 cup or 2 cup setting to let water go throw the portafilter. I did both of those...numerous rimes...and nothing. I probably tried it about 15 times, and still nothing would come out.

So I guess shame on me for thinking a new one would be any better than a used one. And for the record, I never even tried the used one. I just boxed it back up and did the return/replacement. I still need to send it back. And now I get to send TWO of them back.

The brand I bought off Amazon is ILAVIE. My niece has a different model, but same brand and hers works perfectly. My sister has a De'Longhi. I know that brand, but went with the other because I'd seen how simple it was to use (basically like a coffee maker, imo, just with an extra step if you choose to froth your milk/cream). Tomorrow, I'm going to Target to get a De'Longhi.

I never buy an open box. If I get an open box in a shipment, it goes back. It's not my job to take compromised inventory of any kind - used, open or otherwise.

i had no idea it was an open box or used. It never said anything like that. It was supposed to be a brand new unit. Unfortunately, even the brand new one didn't work.

I can see that with some things. Others, not so much. IE: A major appliance that's been a display?

Just being an ass here ... a wheelbarrow would be open box, right?

I'm paranoid about buying a boxed item off the shelf that's been opened.
