šŸ“” SEC's Greg Sankey - 'Only Congress' can resolve NIL issues - ESPN

The NCAA can easily remedy this with W2s and 10-99 forms…and treating the players as expendable employees that can be fired instead of being coddled, cradled and guarded… make them pay out-of-pocket for insurance policies like normal people do instead of the college covering them… no free meals.. no free swag or uniforms… no scholarships for these NIL athletes just walk on status… then they will want to go back to the old ways of doing things…

When the NIL rules were passed there were provisions included that allowed athletes to use tax attorneys/representatives to help them with these things. In other words, they already receive a 10-99.

I've been thinking about this since it was enacted and especially since we saw what a few schools did in the last recruiting cycle. Sankey is as close to being right as he can be; the NCAA can't control these things any longer.

Which leads me to a conclusion, if you will. I believe the NCAA, as a whole, needs to follow the pattern of professional golf. There we see the USGA and the RA make the rules that govern the game itself; not anything extracurricular. I would like to see the NCAA take the same role (though that needs major change as well.) Let them be the governing body over the rules of the game; nothing more, nothing less.

And, to clarify ... the major changes involve removing members from a DIII program making rules for D1 play.
