🏈 SEC "WILL" be undefeted in bowl season

So I have taken the time to sit down and analyze each bowl the SEC is playing in, and I believe we have a fair shot of going undefeated.

Music City Bowl, 12/27/09
Kentucky vs Clemson
Its no secret that the ACC has not been a powerhouse conference this year. There is no clear top team in the conference along with weak defenses. That being said this is not a Kentucky team from old. They are very solid in the linebacker and saftey position as they proved in their win over the high powered Auburn offense. Kentucky has always had a decent run game, but they have been able to combine that with solid quarterback play for M. Hartline. This will be a close game and if their was one for the SEC to lose this would be the won. The game will be won by a late feild goal.

Independence Bowl, 12/28/09
Georgia vs Texas A&M
I know what you are all saying, that the Bull dogs have all kind of off field distractions and wont be able to concentrate on beating A&M. But this team has showed bits of brilliance over the season. Their offense has seen new birth in the passing game with J. Cox who has 22 touchdowns on the season. I think this faultering defense will have a good game against A&M and the offense will have enough fire power with Cox to outscore A&M.

Chick-fil-a, 12/31/09
Tennesse vs VT
This one seems like another no brainer to me. The defensive mind of monte kiffen with time to prepare for a weak ACC offense will have a field day. I predict that E. Berry has a huge final game with an interseption or two. I also do not believe that VT's defense will be able to stop a strong run game from Hardesty. Tennesse wins big.

Outback bowl, 1/1/10
Auburn vs Northwestern
This is going to be a really good game. It will be one im looking forward to watching. The key to auburn winning this game will be which Auburn offense shows up. Many times over the year it seems they were very inconsistant if they could not get the run game going they seemed destin to fail. And I wonder if the defense that showed up against us will be playing in that bowl game. If they can swarm and change coverage they way they did against us I believe they will have no trouble pulling out the win.

Capital One Bowl, 1/1/10
LSU vs Penn State
This game is going to be a no contest for the LSU tigers. These are two tremendusly coached teams that will have a very good game plan for this BCS bowl game. But I believe very strongly that LSU has the better athletes on both sides of the ball. And as much as I hate LSU's fans I know PSU will hate them even more after this game.

Sugar Bowl, 1/1/10
Florida vs Cincinnati
Florida is about to chew up cinci's football team and spit them out. Cincys defense will have no idea what hit them once Tebow gets rolling in this game and he will. Coming off a defeate Tebow is not someone I want to bet against. He will be fired up and crying on the field again this game. Not to mention the Florida defense will be healthy and im sure DUI Dunlap will be playing in this game. I predict a season high number of picks in this game and Tebow has crazy numbers. Florida wins huge.

Cotton Bowl, 1/2/10
Mississippi vs Oak St.
I think the Rebels will have another break out outstanding bowl game victory this year. Their defense will play very solid with the time to prepare for Oak St. predictable offense attack. I also believe that Snead will have a very good game mixed with the attack of McCluster. Mississippi wins by a touchdown.

Papa Johns.com Bowl, 1/2/10
South Carolina vs Connecticut
This is another hard game to call because both of these teams have proved to be inconsistent this season. I think USC has enough speed and defense talent to hang with if not stop Connecticuts offense. It will all depend on the play of USC's quarterback S. Garcia. If he has a good game, and the old ball coach has a few tricks up his sleaves I think USC will win by a slim margin. USC by a field goal or less.

Liberty Bowl, 1/2/10
Arkansas vs East Carolina
This seems like another blow out to me. I have seen this East Carolina team play a few times and was not impresed by their performance against the teams they were playing in the "C-USA". I do not believe that EC will be able to stop passing attack by Mallet. And I think Arkansas defense will show out against EC's Quarterback Pinkney. Arkansas wins by two maybe three touchdowns.

And last but not least....
BCS National Championship Game, 1/7/10
Ok so I do believe that Texas has a very good team with good athletes and a very good coaching staff, come of who coached with Saban in the past. But I do not think any of that is going to matter. I think Alabama is going to be so excited to play for this oppurtunity that they are going to come out hitting Texas in the mouth every play. Texas will not know what to do when they play a team a physical not only on defense but on offense. Every player on our team has the grit and desire to win. And lets be real Saban with a mouth to prepare against a team...We are going to win. Alabama by two touchdowns. McElroy has a very good game.

What do you think?

They definitely won't go undefeated.

Probable losses:
-Kentucky vs. Clemson: the Tigers aren't a great team, but Spiller will run wild on UK.
-Considering both LSU and Penn St have bad offenses and stout defenses, I'm taking the under in this game. I lean towards the Nittany Lions.
-UGA vs TAMU: it will depend on who is more motivated. Neither defense is very good, and I'd give the slight edge to the Aggie offense, but it wouldn't surprise me either way.
-USCe vs UConn: Again, it comes down to motivation, but my lean is the Huskies.
-Florida vs Cincinnati: if the Gators have "checked out" after losing the SEC title game, or if the Bearcats feel like they have something to prove by going undefeated, this game won't be close. If the Notre Dame job proves to be a distraction for Brian Kelly, the Gators will win. It's a great match-up.

Probable wins:
-Barners vs Northwestern: Aubie's playing good football, and they'll want to make a statement heading into next season.
-Tennessee vs VaTech: Another team that's playing good football and wants to have some momentum heading into the offseason. I could easily see the Hokies winning, though.
-Ole Miss vs. Oklahoma St: it comes down to Dexter McCluster and Zac Robinson. If the Rebs get McCluster a bunch of touches and Robinson isn't 100%, they'll win going away. If Robinson is healthy and the Rebs depend on Snead to zing the ball all over the field, I lean towards the Pokes.
-Arkansas vs. ECU: Skip Holtz is a great coach, and they won't be afraid to match the Hogs. I expect this to be a fairly high-scoring game, but Mallett will be the difference.
-Bama vs. Texas: Roll Tide Roll.

Good analysis. I'm not on board with an undefeated postseason though. If for no other reason than Bama won the SEC, and we need at least some ammunition for our enemies to say "well, the conference wasn't as strong that year". So, I think the SEC could be as low as .500 in the bowl games.

Probable losses: UK vs. Clemson; UGA vs. aTm; LSU vs. PSU; Bama vs. Texas (hate to do that one, but we should not underestimate Texas, though I really believe we will win)

Probably wins: USCe vs. UConn; Arkansas vs. ECU (get real, ECU was a slightly better than .500 Conf. USA team); Tennessee vs. VaTech; Aubs vs. NWestern (again, 8-4 in the Big 10/11 is about 5-7 in the SEC); Ole Missy vs. OSU; UF vs. Cincy in a shootout.

All of this is always on the condition that the expected winner shows up. As we showed last year, the favorite needs to be motivated and not be surprised by a better team than originally tought. I actually think Cincy is for real, and CAN beat UF, but UF, if even lightly motivated, has waaaay too many athletes.

The best game will be Bama vs. Texas. I list it as a probable loss because to me, it's a 50/50 shot.

I think there's a very slim chance of the SEC going undefeated. So many of these games can break either way. Inevitably, a few teams will lay an egg and not be prepared. I'll be surprised if the SEC wins seven out of ten. And the media will speak poorly of the conference because of it, despite the clear handicapping that occurs between SEC pairing with other conferences:

Music City Bowl, 12/27/09
Kentucky vs Clemson
ACC runner-up vs. SEC 7-10th place team

Independence Bowl, 12/28/09
Georgia vs Texas A&M
Big 12 7 vs. SEC 6 - with a modicum of defense, uga should roll.

Chick-fil-a, 12/31/09
Tennesse vs VT
SEC 5 vs. ACC 2 - close call.

Outback bowl, 1/1/10
aubrun vs Northwestern
Big 10 4 vs. SEC 7-10

Capital One Bowl, 1/1/10
LSU vs Penn State
SEC 3 vs. Big 10 2/3

Sugar Bowl, 1/1/10
Florida vs Cincinnati
SEC 2 vs. Big East 1

Cotton Bowl, 1/2/10
Mississippi vs Ok St.
Big 12 3 vs. SEC 4 - I don't see Ole Miss bouncing back for this one.

Papa Johns.com Bowl, 1/2/10
South Carolina vs Connecticut
Big East 5/6 vs. SEC 7-10 - SC should win, but under Spurrier SC hasn't played well in bowls.

Liberty Bowl, 1/2/10
Arkansas vs East Carolina
SEC 7-10 vs. C-USA 2

The only sure game is that LSU will beat Penn State due to superior coaching and clock management.

Tim
