🏈 GAME THREAD SEC / NCAA GAMES OF THE WEEK - 9/15

Watched about 10 minutes of this game, and I can tell you for certain that Oklahoma is NOt a contender. Their defense is quite porous and their QB plays a bit scared at times. Iowa state actually looks like a contender for their conference. Very good run blocking from the entirety of their line and TE/fullbacks.

Lets just talk about Oklahoma's defense for a minute lol

Troy has a kid that was a starter at Oklahoma at cornerback right now (he got into some trouble there but really seems like a good kid). Troy's DC made a statement during fall camp that seriously shocked me. He said that player (Will Sunderland) is super talented but it's pretty much like he's starting completely over, because at Oklahoma they never actually TAUGHT him a position.

Troy wants him to be their "spear" position (pretty much a nickel that is a hybrid safety/corner) because of his size but at Oklahoma they never taught him to play corner or safety or anything else at this level. He said that Sunderland told him when he first got there at Oklahoma would pretty much point to a certain player on the team and tell him, "go cover that guy." They would do that in practice, too! I was literally shocked when I heard that. I could not believe that a school like Oklahoma cares so little about the defensive side of the ball that they really don't even bother teaching technique or even have a true scheme (at least for the DBs I guess).

He's also the kid that made the last interception at Nebraska yesterday that sealed the game.

Which would bring me to Mike Stoops, very quickly. Against Georgia, the LBers were blowing reads and lining up out of position. That's coaching, not talent. It's the only thing that explains simple toss plays and off tackle stuff going the distance for 4 quarters and OT.
