Playoffs? Playoffs?
The subject came up at SEC Media Days, but considering how much attention the biggest story of the offseason got in recent months, reaction from coaches seemed almost muted.
There was faint applause for the four-team playoff that is two years away, and there were few reservations expressed about any devils in details that still must be decided, such as who will serve on a selection committee.
The response is more satisfaction than celebration. You were expecting this group to rejoice? They seemed to be expressing relief.
"What the country's asked for is what they're getting, and that's a little bit more playoff and a little bit more games and a greater view," LSU coach Les Miles said. "I think it will eventually work out very effectively."
Several coaches shared a common sentiment.
"The bowl system is intact," Florida coach Will Muschamp said.
"I think it's great. Really, the bowl system is a great reward for the student-athlete. It's a great reward for the coach and his wife to go someplace for three, four days, stay in a nice hotel, have nice meals. A lot of our young people, they don't get to do stuff like that." Hugh Freeze also is pleased for the same reason.
