Inside the technology giving Alabama a competitive edge
With this info available, does that mean that Dunbar is just not able to interpret it? What else would explain the lack of rest for the DL? (several players were on the field against the Dabos for over 100 plays) His continued lack of rotation of the DL last year had to have had a detrimental impact on their performance. I, for one, will always look back to his lack of development of back ups and rotation throughout the season and especially for the CG that lead to dissapointment. (yes, I know that this group was probably the best group ever for an Alabama team, but that makes it even worst, doesn't it?) Hopefully now that he has time to understand the process better and seem the benefits, he will buy in and see the need for rotation, rest and development.
Bo Davis, why did you lie about such a minor infraction? You are as much to blame as Dunbar, if you had done the right thing, and even later just told the rruth, you would still be here working 3 deep DL that would dominate.

A couple of notes here:

The most snaps taken by a defensive linemen against Clemson was Allen's with 70 out of 99. That's a lot of plays, no doubt. It fits with the percentage of plays they took all season. The difference, of course, is the team gave up 99 offensive snaps when the most they'd given all season was 84 against Arkansas (where Allen had 61 snaps.)

Against Clemson, the team spent over 55% of the time in the Rabbit personnel group--two DL, four linebackers, and five defensive backs. A tad over 40% was in Nickel (3-3-5) and the rest in Dime (2-3-6.)

While no player had over 100 snaps. There were seven who had their numbers in the 90's--every one of those were in the back seven. Where did we see the most detrimental injuries last season? One in the defensive backfield with Jackson and the other in the linebacking corps with the loss of SD Hamilton.

This technology is a great addition, but it's being misinterpreted as well. While these monitors are recording this information on a live basis, the results aren't coming to the sidelines live. (One might look to see if it's actually allowed within the NCAA's rules to have such feedback, live, in a game. There are limits and regs here and I can't tell you what they apply to.)

This information is compiled, then uploaded about a half of an hour after the game, then exported to their own set-up, and then reviewed. Based on the way this system is set up, they are not compiling this information after each series, each quarter, or each half. It's after each practice and game. Simply put, there wasn't enough time to have used this information in the Clemson game--it's not set up to be used in that manner.

I do not disagree more depth would have benefited. I do disagree it was the primary reason for the loss. In my view, that fell on the team as a whole. As example, with the exception of the last series where Bama scored, the team had one first down the entire fourth quarter and that in the first series of the fourth--a four play drive that ended in a punt.

once again you show your value to this forum; great information and analysis. I understand and appreciate your input.
I am sure I could have made my point better. I was hoping to point out that I thought I saw a trend all season where the DL was not getting the rotational reps that I had become accustomed to under Bo Davis. We all know that the cummulative toll of the impacts on the players is/can be devastating.
Maybe I am just too butt hurt over this loss to see clearly and have clouded vision.
Have to get better at the So What! Now, What? aspect of my life.

There have been a handful of guys we'd hoped would be on campus, but for one reason or another Bama ended up missing on. The "Hulk," with his academic issues, is the first that comes to mind.

The Tide didn't have much of a depth chart along the line. That's disappointing. I have to weigh that against what we saw coming out of school in the last few years as well. There's been at least two different recruiting cycles where top notch, defensive linemen weren't in abundance. It left Bama fans seeing a four man rotation last season versus a rotation of eight or nine the year before (and a few more played.)

We can "understand" what caused the lack of depth. It doesn't do a damn thing to help the frustration felt after that loss to Clemson. I live among these Clemson fans and the only thing I consider to be my saving grace is those who know me know I don't wallow in smack talk. (It does frustrate the hell out of them when they hear, "Good game, I enjoyed watching it despite hating the loss. We'll see what happens this fall."

(That's met with "we're the defending national champions" so often I find it to be comical. Winning one big game will do that to a fan base.)

**Just as a side note: I think we'll get a clue how the team is looking on depth along the defensive line with what happens with one player; Kedrick James. He's been working out with the tight ends (another position where they are looking for some guys to step up) and if ends up sliding across the ball to defensive end? Personally, I'd LOVE to see him there. He's going to be a good player no matter where we see him line up.
