Scarbrough, team hear from Nick Saban after incident with UT fan

TUSCALOOSA -- After his 85-yard yard touchdown run at Tennessee, Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough ran up to a Vols fan wearing a Peyton Manning jersey, threw his right hand in his face and trotted back to the Crimson Tide sideline. Following Wednesday’s practice, head coach Nick Saban was asked about that incident and if he spoke with Scarbrough about it.

ā€œI did talk to him. I talked to the whole team about it,ā€ Saban said Wednesday evening. ā€œI don’t know what category you would put the conversation in, whether it was talking to or we’ve talked about these elements of ass-chewings before. I don’t know where you categorize that one.

ā€œBut look, that’s a young kid that needs people to look up to in the world, needs sports figures that he can sort of have some admiration for the way they carry themselves, the example they set, the things that they do. And that was not an action that actually contributed to that in any way, and it’s not how we want our players to represent themselves, their family or the program.ā€

Saban was not happy with the tailback’s post-score celebration, but he has liked what he’s seen from him between the lines. Scarbrough rushed for a career-high 109 yards and the touchdown run on only five carries in his first career start this past Saturday. Outside of the celebration at Neyland Stadium, Scarbrough has played better during Alabama’s midseason stretch of games.

On the year, the sophomore back has rushed for 273 yards and five touchdowns on 43 carries (6.35-yard average), and on Wednesday, Saban continued his streak of comments suggesting Scarbrough will be used more in the offense.

ā€œI think Bo has gotten better and better every week,ā€ Saban said. ā€œI think he’s playing with more and more confidence, probably has a little better understanding of what’s expected from him and he’s made some really good plays. I think that probably contributes to him feeling pretty good about his progress he’s making, the role that he has and the way he can contribute to the team.

ā€œSo we’re happy with his development. We certainly need him. He’s got a lot of ability, and hopefully he’ll continue to progress and play well for us.ā€

Well we all knew it was coming!

Well mostly, I'm just proud that all of our scorers this season have decided to actually hang onto the ball all the way across the goal line.

More and more fans are hitting the idiot zone. They were idiots before they got to the game and they were idiots when it was over. I get why Saban wants his players to conduct themselves with a sense of decorum and class. You want them to feel like they're role models. But from the neandertal behavior on display in the 10essee end zone, pretty sure these nitwits aren't all that interested in a role model.

I wonder if Hurts' brushing off of the jersey while staring down the camera came up.

He's done that after several of his rushing TD's, the first time I think may have been Ole Miss on the face mask. My favorite TD reaction is when Henry would take about a second and a half to stare into the end zone crowd when we're playing away games, and then trot back. The little bye bye wave when he iced the aubrun game last year was nice as well.

Scarbrough could have been called for a personal foul/excessive celebration penalty. Maybe he didn't because the fan didn't return the high-5. I believe AJ Green was called for it when he was at UGA for high-5ing a fan in the endzone.

When I was a scoutmaster, I always told my scouts, including my son, that anytime they were in public to "show their class, not their ass."

When I was coaching HS ball, I said the same thing! I also told them that they were representing a WHOLE lot more than just themselves too. You represented your community, the name on the front of your jersey, the name on the back, and you represented me as well.

SEC: Penalty on Georgia's Green a bad call
Here the link about Green and the whole team flag.

"...and what the official reacted to was the player coming out from that group of teammates and making what appeared to be a gesture to the crowd."

"...back judge Michael Watson interpreted as Green gesturing to the Sanford Stadium crowd -- a no-no under college football's strict unsportsmanlike conduct rule."

That's the part.

Us OFC has to help each out when we can! ;)

I like the Mark Ingram celebration of putting the gloves together to show the A's to the crowd and camera. If you've noticed, every running back since him has done it. Not sure if Harris, Jacobs, or Scarborough has yet, as I haven't personally noticed.

Reminded me of '99 when Shaun Alexander did the same thing against Auburn (or Florida in the SEC Championship) when he scored to seal it and then waved and pretended to dial a phone and say it was over.
