Good luck to you guys and we are hoping for a great game and no injuries. I do expect LSU to win, but that is just because I am biased.

If you guys would be kind enought an elaborate a little on your season, I would like to learn more about your team. Just looking at the FSU game and the Houston game does not provide one with a good indication of where the program is. Just as looking at the UK game does not.

You guys are in the SEC and know that after an intense game with UF our guys were beat up. You guys will have us then AU (not sure when the Iron bowl is). You know that your guys will have some bumps and bruises.

As far as Saban goes, he is one hell of a coach and will give UA its identity back. I am sorry that he left LSU and feel bad for Miami, but can't blame Bama for grabbing him. Also, OK with Miles. Don't know how good any coach would have done his first year with Hurricane Katrina devastating much of south LA. I will tell you that I don't think Pellini is as good as his predecessor (now an Aubie).

Now to the game. What are the key matchups in the game? What is the best way for each team to attack the other? What type of game provides each with the best chance of winning?

First of all, welcome and thank you for showing some class. You are one of the first new arrival LSU fans to do so. There are several threads going on debating the match ups of positions and keys to winning etc. feel free to peruse them.

Honestly, I also expect LSU to win because your roster is loaded with talent and several players have stepped up this year. Doucet has been very impressive in the times that I have seen him play. That said, I hope it is Bama that comes out on top (of course.)

Again, welcome and thank you for helping to set an example!

Damn I hope all you naysayer bama fans wear purple and gold to the game Saturday. Jeez I'm not saying you have to be a sunshine pumper, but seriously, expecting that Bama is going to lose is terrible. I'm really surprised to hear it from you HeflinLady.

Thanks. I appreicate your kind words. Did not like that analysis as it is difficult to say that one player is better than another unless there are some NFL scouts amoung us. Does it matter if Doucet is better than DJ Hall since they don't line up against each other? It should be LSUs receivers against Bama's secondary. That type of breakdown. I only get limited time to watch football so its LSU and regrettably the Saints.

I think the threat both players pose is pretty even, and pretty scary for both sides.

Naysayer??!! I consider myself a realist Nate. The talent is undeniable on LSU’s roster although I question Miles’ decision making and play calling. I am willing to take my lumps this year because I have seen a glimpse of what the future holds. I didn’t say that LSU would roll in and stomp Alabama in the ground, but we are thin at more than a few positions and that causes me some concern. LSU’s redzone defense is down pretty low at the bottom of the list in SEC teams (maybe even last) but our defense is iffy (at times) as well. Special teams are great for us, but don’t think they (LSU) won’t be prepared for it. Offense is going to determine a great deal about this game and I have seen LSU step it up when it mattered against Florida and Auburn. Which JPW shows up Saturday and how well the Oline shows up will be huge. McCoy and Caddell may have to pick up DJ’s slack because he has a good chance of being double covered most of the game (especially after a huge game against TN.) Would love to see Stover and Nick Walker get some action as well, just to mix it up a little. Jackson and Simeon need a huge game and we have to keep the QB pressured. A sack (or two) would be a huge momentum builder for our defense. It may come down to coaching and I’ll take Saban on that one. I am really looking forward to this game. Applewhite may surprise us with a few things that are still up his sleeve. We shall see……….that’s why the game is played on the field and not on paper.

ROLL TIDE!!!

Sorry, you are correct. Here is a stat breakdown (facts and figures) from rolltide.com. Perhaps this will give you a better picture.

Being a "realist" is one thing.. saying that you EXPECT Bama to lose is something else. Here is some REALISM for you.. Bama has been in the position to win this game for the past 3 years under Mike Shula. and it has come down to 1 or 2 plays that lost it for us, mainly because we stopped playing in the 4th quarter under Shula. This year in the very least we have a disciplined team that plays 4 quarters of football, under a MUCH better coaching staff.

You ALWAYS make great posts, and have very valuable information to add on here. It really blows my mind that you expect bama to lose :(

I hope they prove you wrong :)

Take off the crimson colored glasses Nate. Reread what I have written and attempt to digest it with your outrage and attitude in check. The TN game was the first game where I saw our offense (the brand new 10 month old offensive scheme) actually fall into a rhythm and JPW look comfortable in his position as QB. Will it continue?!? If it does, it will be one hell of a game. I’m not the only poster on here that has said so. If you must get an attitude with me, you need to seek out the other “REALISTS” and blast them as well. If he gets rattled it could be a long day.

I said I expect LSU to win based on paper, but the game isn’t played on paper. Reread everything, not just bits and pieces.

LOL!!! There is no outrage, and not a single bit off attitude in my post... sorry if you took it that way. Honestly I think you need to reread my posts I said " ALL THE NAYSAYERS" meaning more than one, and I haven't blasted anyone. The reason I said ANYTHING at all is because it seemed to me out of character for you, as opposed to the other typical glass half empty people on here. Sorry if you are having a bad day or something. lol

And I quote: Here’s some REALISM for you.

Tone of voice is everything and it is lost on a message board. Sorry, what I was trying to say is that on paper it looks like the advantage is to LSU, but the game is played on the field. I think it’s anybody’s when the opening kickoff happens, but wouldn’t be surprised to see LSU get the W if JPW can’t settle into the rhythm that he had in the TN game. Does that explain it better?

Most of the time, when one team has more talent, they will win. LSU has heaps more than us. Therefore, a lot of people think they will win.

Does it always play out like that? No, we saw that last Saturday, but it normally does.

We'll see come Saturday.

Okay someone reply with Alabama's strengths and weaknesses.

LSU on Defense

Against a base pro-style offense they are very stout, especially against wide runs and obvious passing situations. Have two corners that should play on Sunday. Very rarely get beat deep. Chevious Jackson will break on short routes and if the line can provide extra time a stop and go route could hurt him. The safeties are the leading tacklers and will pop some people. Obvious strength is the tackle position with Glen Dorsey. However, took a big hit when Alexander went down for the year. End position is very good on strong side with Thyson Jackson. However, the other side with Pittman is not as good and he does not get the type of push that puts fear in opposing players. Linebackers have played well but can be beaten, especially when they are put in mismatch situations. The Tigers are especially vulnerable to the spread offense with a quick hitting short passing game and runs up the middle. This is surprising as the strength of the team is supposed to be their tackles. An opposing offense must make quick decisions and get up field. This defense has speed and going horizontal is not the best option. Coaching: Pollini does a good job, but has not adjusted his style since the Old Ball Coach exposed these weaknesses against USCe.

Offense:

With Flynn and Deucet healthy the offense is significantly improved. LaFell dropped so many passes in crucial and third down plays the offense often looked mediocre. Look for LaFell to see a lot of the pine this week. Running back. This is really Hester's spot. He defines the LSU offense, which is straight-at-you smash-mouth football. Not what you were expecting with all the wild calls you see the offense making. Mix in some of the speed guys and you have a very solid running attack. What they really want to do is get into a fight, get you tired and throw out some speed. The problem with this is that they do not always stay with the hot hand. This leads to their biggest problem of being consistent. Quarterback: No controversy this week as it will be Flynn all the way. His ankle is healthy and he keeps drives alive with his feet. He won't run for 100 yards or anything, but those first downs can be a back breaker. If he goes down LSU brings in a freshmen. Say goodnight. The receiving corps is much improved with Deucet healthy and he sets the tone for the other receivers. In the second half against Auburn, the offense showed what it was capable of doing.

I know some Bama fans have said that this is a cheap team. Nothing could be farther from the truth. While some of our fans (all team have them) are a**holes, the players do not take cheap shots. For example the Florida players said that LSU players play hard and play with class.

I doubt that I spelled all of the proper names correctly.

Now tell me about BAMA.

well we have 12 national championships...and bear bryant...(lol just kidding)

LSU comes into this game with alot more talent and speed.(im scared to death of trindon holliday). But you never really know what will happen with how this season is going.
