🏈 Saban wants all games against “Big 5” conferences

While Saban has been very vocal in his favor of playing nine conference games in the SEC, with an extra non-conference game against a “Big 5” school, he took that idea a step further on Tuesday.

“I think we ought to have to play 12 games against the Big 5 conferences,” Saban said. “So no matter how many games we play in the SEC, we ought to play all those games there. So that's just my opinion.”

The SEC recently settled on an eight-game schedule for the time being, with a required non-conference game against a school from either the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 or Big 12.

Alabama will open the 2014 season against West Virginia in Atlanta and will play Wisconsin in 2015. The Crimson Tide is still looking for a 2016 opponent.

Saban reiterated that he thinks teams didn’t want a ninth game so that the bottom-tier teams would have a better chance at making a bowl game.

“There's so much emphasis on the championship game and playoffs that more teams would be involved because you could lose a game or two and if you played a really strong schedule and you still had a chance - and your fans would have interest - that you might have a chance to get in the mix,” Saban said. “So that's just my opinion, I guess it's being in the NFL, we had 32 teams and we all played someone in those 32 teams. So I don't know why that's not a good thing for college.”

If this were ever implemented there would be a stampede in certain circles t schedule the Colorados of the world.

Maybe some sort of rotating the schedule like the NFL and MLB do.

I started thinking about that when this report was first published. Is it possible for all teams to only schedule Big5 opponents? Every conference would have to have the same number of teams to start, play the same number of conference games on top of that, right? Assuming it's nine games and 12 per season...leaves three open dates.

Too much math for me to think about...this is a @It Takes Eleven problem.
