🏈 Saban Pre-Vandy presser: Evans, Jennings, and Moses back at practice today

Allen was out of postion so many times. maybe he is just so young he doesn't trust his teammates yet. especially on that screen pass. Allen just left the RB

True frosh, put into action after all in the injuries versus Florida State. He saw his first collegiate action against Fresno. No spring camp for Allen and even though he was an early enrollee (Summer I) he's had how many practices? Before the injuries, how many reps at linebacker?

No doubt we saw a few Bama players out of position these last two weeks. I've left both games with the impression those mistakes were youth...letting misdirection delay responses, not knowing assignments as well as the upper-classmen, etc.

I was about to say something right along the same lines. This was to be expected, and the game will slow down. Colorado State's offense is not an easy one to pick up from a week of practice and then just go light the world on fire as a true freshman linebacker. I think it will all slow down, he'll understand the process during game week a little better, and understand how to utilize a scouting report and scout team during practice to prepare. It's all growing pains.

When I was in high school, we were given hand drawn scouting reports of a few plays they ran, their athletic player's numbers, and no explanation at all for what to do and how to do it. I had no clue how to utilize a scouting report. Things are definitely different now, but I can see where these guys get big eyed when the lights come on. Schools like mine and others in the South and other rual areas even don't always prep you the best like some of these schools out there that hire a coach and pay him more than anyone else and fund stadiums through booster clubs and such.

Do we know any more about the status of these guys for Saturday?

Oh, and did we find out what happened with Moses? The last I read was undisclosed injury.

Last I heard Evans was likely and there was still some doubt on Jennings.

Moses is still going through CP.

It's my opinion we need Jennings as much, if not more, than Evans this weekend. With Vandy's two TE offensive sets we'll need someone who is good at setting the edge. He seems to have a real instinct there.

Truly youth and inexperience have played a role in his being out of position. Young guys need the reps in practice so the game can "slow down" for them. I imagine, Allen and the other young bucks will tell you that their heads are sort of spinning out there. They get caught looking and then reacting instead of just flying to the ball. They aren't trusting their coaching and their eyes. It all comes with reps. Good thing is, with these young guys getting reps now, they will be ready to play when called on in November if needed.

I saw a handful of times where he was out of position much like the mentioned. I also saw him in the right position.

It's disappointing to see him thrust into action so quickly but ... how's Saban put it, it is what it is.

FWIW, Evans wrapped but participating in drills.
Jennings was moving well.
What I thought was of note ... Moses getting reps outside in rabbits. (Ray and Cowen working outside as well this week.)

Wednesday Practice Report: Vandy

By Tony Tsoukalas

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama players stayed outside Wednesday participating in their third practice in preparation for Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt. Players were dressed in full pads in 91-degree weather for the workout.

Here are some notes from the media viewing period:

— Inside linebacker Rashaan Evans dropped his drawers during practice as trainers rewrapped his groin. The injured linebacker looked to be moving well during drills though and didn’t show any signs of limitation. Fellow inside linebacker Dylan Moses (concussion) and outside linebacker Anfernee Jennings (ankle) were also moving well and participating in practice.

— Outside linebackers were working on getting off the ball during individual drills. Outside linebacker coach Tosh Lupoi put extra emphasis on watching the ball, stating Vanderbilt would use multiple hard-snap calls to draw Alabama offside.

— Alabama worked out of its dime rabbits package during team drills. The first team unit included defensive ends Da’Shawn Hand, Isaiah Buggs and Da’Ron Payne as well as linebackers Markail Benton and Mack Wilson at the line. Moses shadowed Wilson, while only Buggs and Payne had their hands on the ground. Keith Holcombe played at the lone middle linebacker role, while Minkah Fitzpatrick played the Money position. Levi Wallace and Anthony Averett played the cornerback positions while Ronnie Harrison and Hootie Jones were at safety.

— It's a strong possibility that Benton's inclusion in the first team serves as a placeholder for Jennings. Alabama most likely wants to limit Jennings snaps during practice as not to put extra stress on his ankle.

— The second-team unit also included Wilson and Benton as well as defensive linemen Raekwon Davis, Quinnen Williams and Jamar King on the line. Moses was once again shadowing Wilson, while only Davis and Williams had their hands down. Tony Brown played at Star, while Jones dropped down to play the Money position. Shyheim Carter and Trevon Diggs were the two cornerbacks with Jared Mayden shadowing Diggs. Xavier McKinney was at strong safety, while Deionte Thompson was shadowed by Daniel Wright at free safety.

— Alabama’s offensive line worked out of its jumbo package during team drills, lining up with Jonah Williams, Ross Pierschbacher, Bradley Bozeman, Lester Cotton, Jedrick Wills and Matt Womack from left to right. Tight end Hale Hentges was beside Womack on the right side.

— Brian Robinson is playing Vanderbilt running back Ralph Webb on the scout team.

Evans' dad has been saying all week that Jennings and Evans would both play Saturday. (By the way if you're not following him, you need to be, his nicknames for the players alone are worth the price of admission).
