I disagree with your reason for people respecting JoePa. It reminds me of Bobby Cox with the Braves. He's obviously trying to win every game he manages because he wants to go out with a ring, but that hasn't stopped every organization in Baseball (aside from the Marlins) from presenting him with a parting ceremony for the last time that he's managed in their stadium.
When I don't boo Penn State or sing rammer jammer IF we win, it has nothing to do with JoePa being old or reminding me of my grandfather. I respect him because he's been around the game for a VERY long time. He's done it all at one school, never leaving to take a better position or more money, he's been a great coach the entire time, and he's always done things the right way. I fully expect that he would like to beat Alabama this Saturday, but that doesn't stop me from respecting him for the person and coach that he is.
Win or lose, I'll be giving Joe Pa and his Nittany Lions a standing ovation when they enter the field and when the exit. With that said, I hope we beat them soundly.
