Ryder Cup 2018: JT has the strongest showing of all US golfers in defeat

I love this part of Bama's '18 schedule simply due to who the Tide pulls. There really is no TV conflict as Bama should be well into the second quarter at the time coverage begins.

A small story.

I could say there's one Bama game, that was a win, I regret attending--Arkansas in '99. Don't get me wrong, it was a great ball game where I sacrificed Cup TV coverage on Saturday for football. Great ball game. But, making the choice to drive the next day ... hit traffic on the other side of ATL ... missed Sunday's live coverage.

I won't do that again.

A small observation.

If you look around other sports, and let's take spring ball for football's fan/scrimmage days as example, you see modified scoring systems. They seldom work. One of the things about the sport is how they can change to match play, four ball, and foursomes. The actual matches aren't diminished.

The Stanford vs Notre Dame game has implications this weekend. I'll pay little, if any, attention. I couldn't tell you who won the World Series last year unless we're talking about Oregon State--I didn't watch that game. It dawns on me since that weekend I've likely watched less than 50% of the Super Bowls, but haven't missed much of the President's Cup--a Ryder Cup cousin.

A side thought...

Wonder if JT has had the same thought? "I'm glad Bama has an easy week." That said, imagine the college football banter some of these guys will have this week.

The Ryder Cup is gaining more and more traction as the US has had trouble with Europe as of late. We have the best players in the world and we can't seem to put it together as a team. We get pumped up as a country when we lose things we should win. Baseball to me, is going in the wrong direction. I played baseball all the way through my first two years of college, but it is boring as hell to watch on TV. College football still reigns supreme for me, but I do very much enjoy the Ryder Cup, because I love nothing more than to beat the wimpy Europeans, though they have kicked our ass more as of late and their smugness gets me riled up. Give me college football and then golf as my #1 and #2 things to watch. Also hard to do anything for hours straight with four little hellians running around the house, five if you throw the wife in there.

One event on the Golf tour does not a Baseball playoff make. Being a Yankee fan there is still more games, intrigue, than a weekend full of thrills. I fell hard for baseball way back in the early 70s with the mustache wearing Oakland A's Reggie Jackson, Sal Bando, Catfish Hunter, Vida Blue, Rollie Fingers, etc. If Charles O. Finley's fedora looks suspiciously like someone else's we know, it should. Can't get that on the Ryder Cup.

I used to work on a football staff that our golf coach was a D assistant. During film on Sunday's, he had to have the Ryder Cup on. Damn near caused a fight one year.
For me, golf really doesn't strike my fancy. I would much rather keep up with he Olympics every 4 years. I was always a football, basketball, baseball guy growing up. I have an uncle that loves golf and is pretty good too. He competes on the Senior Olympic stage. He used to golf regularly with Coach Bobby Bowden too. He always told me business deals were handled on the course. I told him I wouldn't be handing out A's on the course. I played a little for fun but that is it.

On the course you can learn more about a person you may go into business with than any other venue. Same goes for how people handle life in general.

I'm a big team sports guy. It's a comraderie that's seldom matched. But, this sport where it's all on you/me? I love the challenge.

I love the ryder cup. A ton of fun to see all these guys get fired up and get after it, to see the teams excited and pulling for each other. It is my favorite golf tournament to watch when it is good with the Master and US open right behind it.

@TerryP I played regularly for years, 2-3 times a week. When I went into administration, I had to cut back because of job responsibilities. Now, I am no longer physically able to to play.

Used to play Golf... occasionally wife and I go hit a few, but to watch golf on tv... let me put down my paint brush... and compare the golf to the paint drying... just not interested that much. Occassionally we also take in the Tour Championship at East Lake ... but other than Bama Football, just not so much interested in many sports programs

The Ryder Cup used to be one of most prestigious tournaments, but when it was being alternated with the President's Cup every other year, the allure was taken back a little bit. There's no doubt the Ryder Cup outweighs the President's Cup, but the anticipation isn't as great as it used to be. I know I am the loan minority here (don't give a $hit that you're probably rolling your eyes), but that in part is why nothing will top the World Cup. Even with the pitiful no-show from the US, this was still a helluva tournament this summer.

@BamaFan334, ...and the Euro's aren't really playing that well in the evening session. They are keeping it inbounds which tends to mean a lot in this sport.

I don't mind Tiger being on the team but for god's sake keep him out of the team events. Singles are a different story but it doesn't take a genius to see he doesn't do well in fourball and foursomes. Phil is no better in foursomes.
