Ryan Grubb's rushing stats for the Washington Huskies show a decreasing trend in rushing attempts per game during his time as offensive coordinator, from an average of 30.8 in 2022 to 27.4 in 2023. While the rushing game was a weaker part of his NFL tenure with the Seattle Seahawks (ranking 28th in rushing yards per game in 2024), Washington's college offense had a more balanced attack in 2023, with running back Dillon Johnson rushing for 1,195 yards and 16 touchdowns.

  • 2023: Rushing attempts per game was 27.4, ranking 125th.
  • 2022: Rushing attempts per game was 30.8, ranking 118th.
  • 2023: The Huskies' rushing attack was more balanced and productive, with Dillon Johnson rushing for 1,195 yards and 16 touchdowns.
  • 2023: Washington's overall rushing yards per game was 4.3, the same as Alabama's in 2023.
  • 2023: The offense was more balanced, and the rushing attack was productive, with running back Dillon Johnson rushing for 1,195 yards and 16 touchdowns.
This indicates a clear trend of Grubb's offensive schemes shifting toward a pass-heavy approach over the years, a trend that was evident both in the college and NFL ranks.

One more thing while at Washington, The line won the Joe Moore award in 2023.

Not sure where this was pulled from but it makes no sense. The numbers are accurate, but the conclusion is not. For starters, 2 seasons isn't a trend, as he describes it. Moreover, if we do want to accept it as a trend, there is a problem with his entire conclusion. This season, (albeit with a few games left), Grubb's offense is averaging 32 rushing attempts per game, more than either of the UW seasons. And in 2022, when rushing attempts were up over 2023, total plays was also up, 9 more plays per game to be exact.
